BT internet e-mail account

Options
I have been using a btinternet e-mail account for the past 6-7 years and to my surprise I received an e-mail from BT last week stating that they will shut this account down unless I either pay a monthly subscription fee or register for their Broadband services at home.

Is there any way around having to pay for the continued use of this e-mail account? Logistically I do not want to change e-mail accounts as I have a multitude of internet based accounts linked to this address and also am in the process of job hunting so my CV has this e-mail address appearing on it. Any advice please?

  • ISPs are closing down their email servcies that used to be provided free for life, as it costs them money to run. As you are currently not one of their custiomers, they are entitled to do this.

You could move to the google services, but as these are free, google will scan your emails for marketing purposes.

Logistics? 10 minutes to open a Gmail account, 5 minutes to do a group cc to your contacts, maybe an hour to change your online account email addresses?
Once you've done it once, you'll never have to do it again with an ISP independent address.
