chunky creda models and are around 35 years old
- are likely to be ± as good as a brand new one, just get it repaired, and ;
- fit additional storage, a brick is a brick, do not pay to have a working heater 'serviced'
- 0.85 / 1.7 / 2.55 / 3.4 the only difference is how many bricks are in them 6-8-12-or 16 bricks
- just get the sparky to wire in an extra 1.7kW storage radiator in your living area that will give you an extra 11.9kWh of cheap stored heat
- add the new 11.9kWh to the 23.8kWh your old 3.4kWh store and you will have 50% more stored cheaper heat at your disposal
- and keep the dampers shut at all times while asleep or out of the dwelling
- improved insulation will save a fortune and improve comfort levels

Ritchie is right.
You need to first look at where the heat is escaping, and try to stop it.
Then look at the heating. If you want to replace the heaters because they look old, that's fine, but if you are only worried about heat, then fix up your current heaters and think about an additional unit.
If you stop your heat escaping, you may find you don't need additional heat.0 -
Thanks Istar and Richie, I have just done the loft insulation and am getting replacement double glazing...so will get the current heaters repaired and see how I go with that. If its still like a freezer I'll just have to go for the extra woolly hat option as no wall space for an additional storage heater (lots of windows!)
Thanks again for your help0 -
Heat Loss Reduction Values are ish !

just thought I'd drop this in , my monthly payments have gone up to £244.00 per month !!!!!!!!! bloody justify that , small 2 bed bungalow
However I hope that a good portion of that £244 is to pay off a debit balance that has built up on the account.
We get loads of cases where bills have been based on estimated readings and a large debit balance builds up. Then the DD is increased massively to cover the heavy winter usage and pay off arrears.0 -

- why did you change from a pre-payment to a credit meter ?
- how much is arrears per the DRO application ?Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Hi, sorry to resurrect this post but I have an update and sadly it has led to more questions!! I have had my smaller storage heater (2.5kw) looked at because it sparked, there was no problem. The electrician said no need to look at the other one (3.4kw). However, i have turned them both on, both are set to input 3 and output 2 - the smaller one is almost too hot to touch and the other is barely warm. Is it the case that i need to simply set the larger heater to higher input/output settings purely because it is a bigger unit or should this omit equivalent heat and therefore indicate that one of the heaters is faulty and i need to get the electrician back in?? Thanks again in advance0

- they will not output equivalent heat
- turn the output on both completely off
- turn the input on the 2.5kW to 1
- turn the input on the 3.4kW to 5
In at least 2 or preferably 3 days time how hot does the 2.5kW feel ?

If the small heater set to 1 still feels as hot as it did 3 days earlier, its probable that the input thermostat has gone and unfortunately that's the only expensive bit at about £40+ in the heater and you may unless you feel competent need the electrician back to check it is gone and change it. There's a handy dBase for Creda parts here you will need the model number of the heater.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I have a 1.7kW on the landing, and a 3.4kW in the front room which are both set at about 1/2. The 1.7kW is always baking hot because it has to work so hard to heat a big area which is poorly insulated. The 3.4kW is barely warm because it isn't working very hard at all.
I'm not going to say your results are typical, but there are a few factors that can change how hot they get.
Richie's advice is sound, turn the small unit down and make sure the temperature drops after a few days, it could be that your room is so cold that the heater is taking a maximum charge each night. If it doesn't cool after a few days, then the input thermostat is conked. I replaced one of these on my dimplex for about £28, not sure about the cost of creda parts.0
