You're completely wrong jenniewb. And doing as much exercise as you claim is incredibly unhealthy for you. You are actually causing stress and fatigue to your body which increases the hormone cortisol, resulting in fat gain ;)

Calculating and measuring body composition is a method used by medics, top sports coaches/trainers and research universities to assess an individual's health and activity levels.

Using Bioelectrical Impedance is only one methos and can only ever give an estimate of body composition which will fluctuate depending on the time of day, whether you've just exercised or eaten a meal.

However, they don't vary significantly between readings so you can get a reasonably good idea of body composition by taking an average of a number of readings. There are several methods of measuring body composition some of which are far more accurate then BIA.

Agree with Chameleon. I've halved my training time and got better results, by radically changing what I do. Long sessions of cardio can be counter productive.

As an example - fitness instructors I know whose classes are predominantly cardio - aerobics, zumba etc. It's their job so they are doing 20 hours of it per week and rarely standing around in those classes either..... yet for a 'mere mortal' one would expect fat to be dropping off at a regular rate of knots. Yet it doesn't and they experience the same as the rest of us, they still have to watch what they eat - obviously not to the extent of those who are inactive.

I don't know what my body fat percentage is but I'm convinced it's less now than it was when I was doing 10 hours per week of cardio based workout.

I am a size 8-10 with a 27'' waist; the only exercise I do is walking - power walking and hill walking.

I did have this body fat test done 5 years ago and I was 38% fat and now 36% so results have 'sort of' stayed the same.

don't really want to embark on a gym routine which I know I won't keep up!

Who did the measurement and what method did they use? It doesn't sound right given your stats above.

I'm same height, a stone heavier, size 10-12 but my body fat is 27%. I find it hard to believe you're carrying 10% more fat than me.

I've been teaching fitness for 20 years - hi impact aerobics, boxercise, resistance classes etc - have always been a size 12, never worried about what I ate, body fat always around 27/28%.

After LC'ing for 18 months it is now 23%. I'm teaching less than I was a few years ago - but still training - but now with an emphasis on 'short-and-sharp' and resistance. Steady state cardio seems so old-fashioned now and does nothing for you. But a lower fat % IS achievable with the RIGHT exercise and the right food.

I am a 5'6'' female weighing 9st 4lbs and very slim! BUT have just been told I have 36% body fat!!

I do a lot of walking but don't have time for gyms etc as I work away a lot....

Anyone know what I should do? anyone else found themselves in the same predicament? if exercise is the key - what type?

    Thanks (from a slim fatty!)

    Hello dbrookf,
Nothing much you have to do for this.Simply maintain healthy diet plan and drink plenty of water and do some exercise too.And last but not the least follow early to bed and early to rise routine....:D:j

So why are you asking about buying "slimming pills" on your other thread if you already know what to do? Smells of troll to me.

Mrs G is the same height but a stone lighter and reckons her body fat is around 23-25%

This doesn't sound like an exact science to me.

    it was the UKBioBank http://www.ukbiobank.ac.uk/

I went on a weighing machine and was told to hold onto two handles which I think measures the electrical resistance through the body.

Nobody said it's an exact science but it's a pretty good estimation, depending on which method is used. The BIA gives a pretty good result and you can buy sets of scales quite cheaply these days that measure body fat, muscle mass, bone density and water.

My results are very consistent and have always reflected a fairly accurate measurement of body composition over the past few years. Your wife sounds about right to me and has a very healthy amount of body fat. I tend to carry more visceral fat, hence my slightly higher mass.
