Sports Direct no exchange

I bought a pair of trainers for my 2 year old son. He wore them once and the blue dye seemed to run on both trainers. I took them back to sports direct - I have lost the receipt and they refused to exchange them saying that my son must of done it himself. They even accused him of kicking walls. The man said that is would wash off and continued rubbing the shoe. He then rubbed some of the white off the trainers and made it worse. I am really angry and upset as I am being genuine and have wasted £17 if they do not offer me an exchange. I have rung customer services who were useless. I have sent customer services an email and await a reply. Advice needed on what to do please.

You will struggle without a receipt or other proof of purchase.

Without that you have no rights to any remedy, other than afforded by the store's own returns policy.

Without proof of purchase you have no rights.
  • I work for sports direct and if you have lost the reciept we can not (even if they are faulty give u a cash refund). They can however if you have proof of purchase on a statement, have that money put onto a gift card or exchanged. Although if you no longer have the box they might again refuse to do anything.

If the goods are faulty, and the fault is deemed to be inherent, the customer is entitled to refund if they can produce a proof of purchase.
Proof of purchase does not have to be a receipt.
It could be a bank or creditcard statement, for example.

Store credit or a gift card is not a refund.

That is the a consumer's statutory right.

If your store's policy is different, then they are wrong.

Also, if the goods are faulty, it matters not whether the original packaging is returned.

If they had proof of purchase on a credit/debit card they'd e legally entitled to a full refund if the goods were faulty...

... assuming it was so soon after purchase that "acceptance" has not been deemed. Otherwise SD could offer an exchange or repair. ;)

Why would you expect an exchange or refund without a receipt? You could have stolen them.

Buy another pair (from another store) and get receipt.
Few days later return first, faulty, pair to that store with receipt. Get refund.
    Keep newer pair of shoes.

This assumes both that SD will give a refund for faulty goods, which isn't guaranteed as they think they are above the law, and that the second pair of shoes you buy isn't faulty too.
