    The simple answer is nope!

There can only be one carer that gets the allowance, notwithstanding that there may well be 3 others each caring for 35 hours a week for the same person.

You all have to decide who claims the allowance.

My father lives 100's of miles away yet over a typical month (4 weeks) I spend a total of over 165 hours caring for him. Week 1- 10 hours, week 2 - 40 hours, week 3 - 105 hours and week 4 - 10 hours.

He receives the higher rate of AA.

My sister, who lives round the corner cares for him on average for 35 hours a week - 140 hours per 4 weeks.

Yet I cannot claim CA - she does.
  • I was thinking about something similar the other day, if there are 2 people in the same house who both need care a carer is only paid for one person not both even though they look after both, but what if there were say 2 sisters in the house, one looked after mum, the other looked after dad would they each get carers allowance? Or maybe an adult child looked after one and a relative from outside the house looked after the other would they each be able to claim carers alliwance?

If the people needing care are claiming the relevant benefits, then, yes, two different people could claim CA - one for each person.

Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

    regarding the OP.
if someone needs the amount of care that you suggest ( 2 people, 35 hours each) then i would duggest contacting social services for an adult assessment.
they may be eligable for either a 'care pacjage' or direct payments ( where they can pay someone to provide additional care)
