I am with Go Fix 8 and have just initiated a switch on the assumption that it should take place after 3rd Feb (4 to 6 weeks quoted).

You don't get a £100 refund of the discount. The discount is reflected in your monthly DD payments (calculated on the basis that you stay a year and the discount is credited). If at the time you leave, you are credit, they should give you a refund of whatever the credit is. If you are in debit, they will take what is owed out of your DD as happens with any utility supplier.

But I agree that the price comparison is on the basis that you stay exactly one year, which is not possible to achieve, so it is a bit of a wheeze.

But hey we did get £100 of shopping vouchers.

It's a racket. I have switched from Npower Gofix8 to EDF Blue June 2014. Initiated transfer on 5th Jan and it is progressing. Hopefully will start on or after 4th Feb

If you use the Account Number from the EDF Welcome pack, you can register online and view "My Account - Contract tracker". This reveals the start dates that your supply will switch to EDF.
Having kicked off a transfer request on 1st Jan from Gofix 8, I discovered last week that my electricity was due to switch on the 27th Jan: too soon! EDF said they couldn't move the date, so I cancelled using the 12-day cooling-off period. I kicked off a fresh request on the 14th.
Logged into EDF today to check that both my Start Dates are now after 3rd Feb.
Somewhat surprised to find that My Account now says that my transferred supply "started" on 14th January:eek:
Oh dear, another long phone call is on the cards for tomorrow.
I'm signing up for two years in order to reduce the switching hassle, but all I've generated so far .... is more hassle!

Spoke to EDF again today and my move from Npower to EDF is now predicted to be after the date on which my contract with Npower ends - so no danger of incurring early termination fees.
Seems the dates now quoted in "My Account" on EDF are currently misleading as I've only recently cancelled the first attempt at moving to them.
I'm told that the very earliest my transfers can now take place is after 24 days for Elec (12 days cooling off + a further 12 days) and 29 days for Gas (12 days cooling off + 17 days).
As I applied on 14/01/13, the earliest date for my Electricity transfer would now be 07/02/13.
My GoFix 8 contract ends on 03/02/13, so fingers crossed, everything is now fine:).
    Bye Bye Npower & your :eek:deferred discounts:eek:.

    Good tip

My EDF start date is 4th February for electricity so timed that nicely :j

Goodness knows why my gas doesn't start until 12th February.

    (initiated switch 9th January)

Well EDF shows my Electricity planned for 31 Jan and Gas for 8 Feb.
I am not going to query these - if I get hit with £20 early exit for electricity I will just complain. Annoying thing is i signed up via energylinx who knew that there was penalty till 3rd Feb, but when I switch from EON last year it was a bit earlier and they did not charge exit fee.
Current snow might slow things anyway. :)
Positive note though I got my £100 credited by nPower - put in readings a couple of days ago and bill generated shows the £100 discount applied, so currently a few quid in credit and my last payment to npower in early Feb will cover any usage before switch.

So the average date of the switch is 4th February (half way between the two dates) which is after 3rd February so no penalty perhaps :rotfl:

Complaining would be my approach in your scenario. Lots of arguments you could use. Interesting to see if Npower back down or whether they force you to take it to the Energy Ombudsman.

Yes, no point trying to complicate things by deferring transfer, if I do get hit for £20 then covered by the energylinx £32 cashback via quidco, but complaint letter worth couple of minutes of my time.
EDF account page looks slightly better than nPower, still like Scottish powers best and EON was terrible (but did get free energy monitor + 2 stand by sockets out of them before I left. :)
Hopefully will have hassle free energy account till June 2014 now and then go through it all again. :)

My switch to EDF went through earlier this month so I'm hoping I've not messed the DD discount part up! Has anyone received their final bill yet? Apparently mine is due soon but having checked the online account there is one listed for the 21st March and I'm apparently in credit.

I wouldn't define myself as stupid but I still struggle to work out if the bills are actually correct!

Edit: Hmmm it seems it's only an 'Electricity' bill for 21st March even though I'm on dual fuel. It says '£40.94CR including discount of £50' so I guess we're halfway there.

    Confusing.
