The work is finished. Or rather, the insulation work they've done to the house is finished.

The 'phone/internet thing was down for 11 days. The BT engineer was meant to come on one Tuesday morning in October and didn't show.

    Morning being anywhere from 08:00 - 13:00.

I took that day off and consequently spent the afternoon on the mobile, pacing up and down the pavement ranting at Indian call centre staff who didn't give a stuff.

The engineer showed up the following Tuesday, while I was at work. I got a 'phone call on my mobile at work from the guy who was surprised to find I wasn't in.

As I was not at the house, he couldn't gain access to the line inside and, he told me, it was only a temporary repair and I had to call the repair hotline again to have a permanent repair completed.

So I did. I arranged a call out and another day off. The engineer didn't even cut the engine of his van whilst telling me that he couldn't do anything as the scaffolding was still up.

Health and Safety, you see.

I was to call TalkTalk again to arrange a permanent repair once the scaffolding was taken down.

That's still ongoing. As far as TalkTalk are concerned, I've got a connection and the job is no longer active. The fact I've got a black, plastic junction box like some kind of odd sex toy dangling above my front door is neither here nor there.

Meanwhile, the n u m b n u t s who did that damage carried on and surpassed my low expectations.

After the insulation foam and the supporting render went on, they put up the three layers of decorative render.

    Missing the bathroom entirely.

The bathroom I paid extra for to have rendered.

It was days after I started complaining about this to the E.On Community Support Worker, that my house was visited to inspect the work.

This was after I complained, she told me that there were no special instruction for my house, I scanned the contract and payment receipt into my computer and sent it, via email, for her to read and for her to acknowledge there had been a screw up.

She showed up with a site manager who asked me what I wanted doing.

I told him, that now that the men had cut the cable and buried the hole it was supposed to enter, the satellite dish may as well come down. The down pipe also need to be reconnected and, of course, the bathroom needed rendering.

The site manager duly marked a sheet on a clipboard and told me not to worry. All I had to do was continue to provide access to the back of my house and it would be sorted. That meant carry on leaving my back gate unlocked in a neighbourhood where criminality and antisocial behaviour is an accepted way of life.

By this time, of course, the workmen had moved on and were working in another street.

There then followed a series of 'phone calls from the E.On CSW explaining that they didn't know when they'd be able to get the workmen back to start the work on the bathroom.

At one point, a leak appeared from my boiler. I shut it down and called British Gas. They showed up and told me it was due to the heavy rain and wind blowing into the flue from the scaffolding above the bathroom.

I caved. I wrote an email to her that I'd had enough, that the disruption was intolerable and I would like a refund. Stuff the bathroom, I just wanted it to finish.

So I was sent a refund. The scaffolding was taken down, the satellite dish was not taken down and the down pipe remained leaning against my fence. Replaced by a long poly tube cable tied to the guttering and flapping freely around the house.

One evening, the carbon monoxide alarm was kicking off as I came in from work. The flapping plastic had wrapped itself around the flue and was interfering with the boiler combustion.

At least I had the electric immersion heater.

It took more complaining 'phone calls to get the down pipe replaced.

Instead of adapting it to stick it onto the wall it originally came from and directing the flow of water to the dedicated gully hole, the gutter down pipe now turns a corner at the top of the guttering run and empties onto my bathroom roof.

Another site foreman called me about the satellite dish - he didn't know why I was told that they would take it down, as they don't touch anything like that.

If I wanted it down, then I would have to get it taken down myself.

    So.

My bathroom looks like crap beside the brand new render, the down pipe doesn't empty directly into a drain, the satellite cable is swinging uselessly in the wind, the telephone/internet connection is precarious AND my external lighting still needs to be put back up.

And, in spite of me telling them that I'm single, I live alone and that I have a job - I've come home to find a "Sorry you were out" note from the E.On CSW.

Any complaints to E.On and TalkTalk are barely acknowledged - I've sent E.On a copy of my mobile 'phone bill which they are disputing (£7!) AND it still isn't over.

I've got arrange another day off to let the electrician in so he can sort out the lighting.

I'm also worried about the state of the workmanship and the possibility of water penetration.

I'm skint and can't afford to pay an independent surveyor to inspect the work and to top it all, E.On have sent a customer satisfaction survey - asking how they've done.

    I don't know where to start! :(

It isn't just E.On's fault, TalkTalk have a lot to answer for, but still..............
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

It screams "who is the customer ?" and "who the hell is paying for this fiasco ?" to me.

My thoughts on incompetence of this "industry" here:

    Lessons to be learnt:

When something sounds too good to be true, that's because it's usually is bloody well too good to be true.

    Stay clear :)

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread.

I was called yesterday afternoon by E.on.

As I had recently had insulation installed, would I be amenable to a quality inspection?

Of course, I replied. I'd be delighted.

So we made an appointment for him to call one afternoon between 12:00 and 16:00.

    He won't know what's hit him....:rotfl:

So unfortunately you seem to have got exactly what you asked for.

How do you expect to be able to press for them to complete the bathroom and the other items if they have already dealt with your complaint as requested?

My external lights are still sitting waiting to be attached after they kept showing up when I was out, the satellite cable is still swinging in the wind, the silicone render is coming away in places, the plastic covers to the stone windowsills are cheap and unsightly regardless of how much I try to clean them, the seals around the windows were never great and now they're coming apart, the down pipe is still a down, across and down pipe, they still owe me money for all the 'phone calls - There's plenty to get on with.......
