This has been going on for a month or so now, i know its not very 'fair' but as soon as someone mentions administration with a company you should spend any credit you have with them asap. Apparently (rumours are) any potential buyer might honour the gift cards but obviously this can't be guranteed especially if they dont find a buyer.

2 choices, see if there bought out and your allowed to use it with the new company or try and claim now but like has been mentioned youll be lucky if you get 10 p for every £. Its a bad situation but if they cant afford to pay suppliers theyre not going to pay customers and at the end of the day the likelihood is the business will be no more and they probably dont care very much youve lost £50 when they are potentially losing their jobs.

I'm not sure if this helps but they posted something today saying they will now be accepting loyalty payments on second hand games. I don't know if the card you have consists of loyalty points or if it is a gift card but it might be worth going back in and trying again :) Also it looks like RBS are going to save them so you may be in luck there!
  • Cool, that may well be the saving grace. I'll go back in to the store after the weekend and see what the score is.

    Thanks.

Not sure whether they'll be accepting store credit but they're accepting points balances towards pre-owned games.

Says so on their website here:

    http://www.game.co.uk/wcsstore/holding_page/game/index.html?storeId=10151
Reward is back! Earn points on your purchases & redeem points on pre-owned!

But the site itself is still down for maintenance. Also from their facebook page:
Reward Card Update: Your Reward Cards have now been reactivated by the Administrators for redemption against pre-owned stock. This means that points can be earned on all products AND redeemed against pre-owned items as of now.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

Heres a story about RBS possibly taking over the company. Whether its permanent im not sure, RBS could be doing to make it more appealing to buyers. I dont suppose those who have accounts with rbs wold get shares in the company.

There is a good chance that if RBS do take over the company that all gift cards and rewards issued before they do take it over will not be honoured and you will have to deal with the administrators.

They normally set up a new legal entity at the point of take over and all 'liabilities' usually stay with the old entity - which includes gift cards.

So if you have them spend them now. As soon as possible!

There appears to be some good news. A buyer has been found for Game.

Only for a minority of the stores and outstanding credit is unlikely to be honoured (Although that's not been addressed yet)

If the entity known as "Game Group PLC" with the company number 00875835 still exists, their contractual arrangements should still be valid.
