Strange question for electrician (or anyone else)

I'm looking for a rational/logical answer to this, if there is one.
My CD player was left on accidentally on Friday after it finished playing a CD - I was in another room and forgot all about it so it didn't get switched off either at the CD player or the wall socket.
Yesterday (4 days later) I was watching TV and the CD player suddenly started playing the first track of the CD. There was no power surge or anything, TV wasn't affected, lights didn't flicker, computer was on and nothing happened to that.
Any ideas as to why it should suddenly start playing again after 4 days?

Was the cd 'meaningful' TM. If that had happened to me, I'd be thinking it was TD. But then I've always felt there's more to life that society thinks there is.Herman - MP for all!

if the cd player has remote control, various things can set off/operate the system.
either audio or an infrared signal.
also heat can do funny/random things to the chip inside the machine.Get some gorm.0 -
Does the CD player have (or could have) a remote? These are usually infrared the wavelength of which is very close to visible light and sometimes poor filtering on the CD could result in sunlight triggering the play command.0

There is a remote control for it. The Hi-Fi is in the sideboard, top of the stack is the amplifier which was switched on to CD player, bottom left is the CD player which was switched on and bottom right is the tuner which was switched off. The remote is on the tuner and is left there as it's never used. The door to the sideboard was closed so no light was getting in. I actually checked to see if there was a build up of heat as it had been left of for four days but it was very slightly warm only. The remote to the TV wasn't being used, it was lying on the coffee table quite a long way from the sideboard and pointing away from it.

Actually AJ, the answer to that is yes. It was one of the songs played at TD's funeral. That's why I was looking for a rational explanation
. I did think along the same lines as you but as it was the first track on the CD rather than, say, track 4 or 5, then I'm thinking there could be an proper explanation. My DS laughingly said "It's Dad come to tell you to switch the Hi-Fi off as it's costing money" :rotfl: . 0 -

When my Mother died, my brother and I had to clear her house out. When it was done, we were due to leave at 6am to catch a train home.
Because it was our last ever night in her house, we were both a bit upset and didn't really sleep well, it was around 3am before we got off. We jokingly said out loud, something like 'if you're floating about up there Mum, wake us up in the morning'. (We were both notorious for not being able to get up in the morning at that point).
Around 5am in the morning, the phone rang. There was no-one at the other end, just a hollow quiet iyswim.
Coincidence? Of course it could be. I just don't feel it was.
Oh and to all those who want to come and 'explain' this away, don't bother, I'm not listening. :rotfl:Herman - MP for all!
