I have a garage that was built when the house was built mid sixties, basically because cars where smaller, then it was great, but now it cant be used to put a car in. Ive thought about taking the up and over door off, bricking upthe front, put a normal window and door in, and using it as an overnight room if anyone stops. Would i need planning permission.

May fall under revised permitted development rules - check with your council. You will need Building Regs though.

Yes I know. You did exactly the same to me concerning Dow Corning silicone on another thread earlier.
Cheers
The OP on that thread asked what silicone sealant folks used and I answered.
Handbags at dawn.;)

Looking around the estate that i live on, a few have done this with their garage, but i also noticed a lot have just used wood instead of bricks, but still put in a window and a door for an entrance, as this wouldnt be classed as apermanent structure would i get away without planning permission. Sorry if the answer is on the link i was given but when it comes to understanding anything like that i prefer to hear it from someone with past experience.0

Noone will have experience of your estate or your local council though will they. Check out with planning department or ask some of your neighbours who ahve done it.
We had a proper conversion done and only needed to comply with BR and didn't need full planning.
Do take into account where you will store all the c**p accumulated in your garage though and bikes etc0
