    hi Pearls of wisdom,
    1) I meant a very low income: about £7500-8000 a year. I only work part-time and I'm a part-time student. 2)I have been with Barclays since February last year. They have already sent me their Initial offer twice: last November and April this year. Don't know whether it matters but I don't even have a business account, they agreed to open a current account for me and I pay in all the money I earn every week. I have a small overdraft of £100 but have never used it. 3) I have been living in my current flat (well, it's not mine, I'm renting it) for more than two years. As I already said, I'm very surprised than they even bother with sending me their offers and even more surprised with the result of pre-application check. It's all a completely new world for me because I've never had a credit card although I'm 30 (this is partly because of my brother's huge debt that I'm scared of credits).
    Best regards,
And sorry for my grammar (I'm not British).
Many thanks for response no need to apologise for your grammar it is absolutely fine, dealing with the points - 2.yourself 15 months, interesting to note you're 1st offer was approx 9 months with bank so i may be months away from getting any letter. 3.you're house 2 years on soft search i can only state 1 year when it is really 16 months my previous house 7 years i'm renting as well.I don't think my earnings count for anything at the moment until i have a longer period with bank all i can say is if i was quoted 80/90% on soft search i would apply as in real terms that's what i'm seeking prior to applying for card as i stated earlier in this thread all i have is a vanquis at present so in theory you should have a very good chance of obtaining vanquis if you do make sure you clear balance in full each month DON'T LINE THERE POCKETS many thanks Anya 15 for your helpful comments as it has confirmed my previous thought's at why i'm coming up short at this moment in time all the best:T

If you get a 80-90% chance of an Initial, then you will get it.

I have read people on here having that percentage, and then really apply for it was successful.
  • I applied for a Vanquis 9 months ago, use it most months for small purchases and pay it off in full every month. I tried the Barclays Pre Approval on the site and it said 80-90% for the initial.

I've just applied for the Capital One card and been accepted, So I will probably use that one aswell for a year then try for a better card :)

I think building it up slowly is definately working for me because 2 years ago I could get a loan ANYWHERE because my lack of history :)

we spoke about 1 week ago book 12 since then thread 26 i've done 2nd soft search still 70/80% and you will see i spoke with anya and it highlighted where i believe i'm falling short at this moment all this has been a great help as in all reality it has stopped me making a full application which if i'm honest i know would have been declined roll on 6/7 months with bank and a 80/90% i have no cash flow issues at moment so not really a problem but i would prefer to speed up potential future credit lines, sounds like matthewandemma are doing it correctly don't think i can leave applications a year apart though many thanks everyone:T

    Hello,
On tuesday this week I finally applied online for Barclaycard Initial. When I finished and pressed a confirm button, there was some sort of system crash saying that 'ooups, we have experienced a problem, please contact customer service or try again later'. I called their customer service and they said that 'these sort of things happen' but they've received my application. They told me that I should receive a letter within 5-10 working days. Today, two days later, I hold a brand new credit card in my hand. My available credit is set at £1000 and my cash limit is £300. I am really surprised because I don't earn £10 000pa (their condition) but much, much less... How weird is that...But I'm very pleased ;) This is my first credit card so it feels exciting. I just have to remember that it's not my money though!!! ;)

Thank you, pearls of wisdom! Yes, I do remember you!
They sent me a card, Barclaycard Freedom reward information and a little 'Welcome' booklet. I can ask for another copy of my agreement during the withdrawal period. But there is no information about APR and similar stuff... Is it normal? Maybe they will send it with PIN. Ohhh... I just can't stop thinking it's all a mistake. Yeah, I know, I'm annoying ;) I'm just an upside-down optimist :)
They didn't want anything from me, no statements, no papers fro HMRC, no phone calls from them, no question...

i remember when i opened my barclays account there was half a dozen letters from different departments same when i opened vanquis credit card so i wouldn't be too alarmed as you're probably going to receive further mail through post so give them a little more time and see what arrives :) stop worrying because the one big lesson i've learned on this forum that it is impossible to guarantee 100% exactly what will happen in 34 days time or 13 months time even the smartest, most experienced people on this forum can only best guide you so worrying over every precise detail will drive you crazy :rotfl:

    OP

I had difficulty getting a CC too so I took out a capital one card - the credit limit started at £250 after a few months rose to £500, then £1k and now £2k

My credit rating has now improved and I have swapped to a barclays platinum card - the only thing different on my credit history is the Capital one card - i made either full or partial payments on time every month
