How do you find and choose ETFs?

Please could someone post a link to resources that would provide the symbols for a universe of ETFs, and give the information needed to enable me to decide in which ones to invest?

I did find something on Morningstar that seemed promising, but it wanted me to pay for a subscription in order to read the full description.
