    well it seems the kids laptop is the one she used for her emailing etc and the kids take it to their Dad's when they stay over, whats to say he hasn't installed stuff it while the kiddies are sleeping

    He doesn't need to. He merely needs to look in the Sent folder and judging by some of the replies to this thread, it would seem many are completely unaware sent messages get saved in the sent folder....

    no indication she using outlook. Ok our bad for assuming she uses online clients like hotmail. But if she using yahoo via IE or firefox then what we say still stands.

    Basically it's an offence to access any computer informatiomn that you are not entitled to - so yes, he's likely commiting an offence - unauthorised access under the 1990 Computer Misuse Act
    The force is strong in this one!

    Tell her to change her email password, making sure it doesn't send notification anywhere else, as mentioned in post 11 (not sure if yahoo has a similar setup). Also tell her not to use their son's laptops to access her email if she can avoid it.
    People who can't make useful comments will always come along in open forums like this. From her experience with her ex, I'm sure she'll know how people can behave and take any less than helpful comments on here with a pinch of salt.

    so is there software available to tell him who the email is forwarded to?

    So has he breached any law?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-mail_tracking#E-mail_marketing_and_tracking

    "Some e-mail marketing tools include tracking as a feature. Such e-mail tracking is usually accomplished using standard web tracking devices known as cookies and web beacons. When you send a tracked e-mail message, if it's a graphical HTML message (not a plain text message) the e-mail marketing system may embed a tiny, invisible tracking image (a single-pixel gif, sometimes called a web beacon) within the content of the message. When the recipient opens the message, the tracking image is referenced. When they click a link or open an attachment, another tracking code is activated. In each case a separate tracking event is recorded by the system. These response events accumulate over time in a database, enabled the e-mail marketing software to report metrics such as open-rate and click-through rates. E-mail marketing users can view reports on both aggregate response statistics and individual response over time."

    Edit: Here's a company who offers such a "service"

    Any bets on the fact she has "save my password" box ticked AND they're all there in the sent folder?

    I love how half the posters to this thread have the husband figured out as some kind of 733t hAx0r who has managed to circumvent antivirus software, hack into accounts, install keyloggers and create carefully crafted emails guaranteed to bypass AV and take advantage of an exploit in the browser or email client....

    As I and a couple of others have said, chances are a weak password on the email account and/or the emails left in the sent folder.
  • NO! Without a file on said email with an e.exe extension this is not possible. Also you would of had to execute it.

    We are covering the bases, for a start she set up a new account after he left. And he has the idea to go snooping anyway so whats to say he hasn't done some home work and made exclusions with the virus scanner to skip over the keylogger, What you say is possible to have activily clicked remember my password. but still doesn't mean he hasn't used that chance to make a few forwarding commands so he can see what shes up to when the kids are not there.

    If she had clicked remember, you would say just unclick it and thats it, then she would be back to say hes still getting in. You are doing the minimum, not checking the other avenues, which if he is already been snooping could easily have googled how to make sure he can do it when he wants anytime with or without kids laptops.

    Emails not need to crafted to by pass AV, you can set any file on the computer to be ignored by the AV, firewall etc. If that file is a virus then it will beable to do whatever it is designed to do just as if there was no secureity software installed.

    It is possible if the email program loads remote content. Just read my previous posts (again);
