Hi, I've got my first ever loaf of wheaten bread in the oven right now.
I seem to distantly recall that my Gran wrapped hers in a tea towel when it came out to stop it drying out. Do any of you do this? Or any other tips that might help such as shelf life, storage , suitability for freezing etc. Thanks.
Arty.

Hiya,
I do that for normal bread so don't think it would be any different for wheaten. Do you have a recipe? We can't get it hereFeb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -
Hi wssla,
This is my step-mum's recipe for wheaten bread, it's delicious and very easy to make:
5oz plain flour
1oz bran
1oz wheatgerm
1oz sugar
3oz coarse wholemeal
250 mls buttermilk
1 teasp oil (optional)
1 rounded teasp baking soda
1 teasp salt
- Sieve flour, baking soda and salt
- Add bran, wheatgerm, sugar and wholemeal.
- Mix to a soft dough with the buttermilk and oil.
-Turn into a greased and dusted 1lb loaf tin.
- Bake at 160 degrees for approx 35 minutes.

I can confirm that wheaten recipe of Pinks is GORGEOUS:j! It is easy peasy, freezes b rilliant, and I find it keeps great for even a week or so in a lock and lock.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I used to get the Jordans wheatgerm & bran for this. Now I can see that Waitrose still do the wheatgerm, but not the bran.
Anyone know where I can buy it?
http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/shopping/findproducts.aspx?query=jordans&store=Waitrose
Also when the receipe says baking soda, is that baking powder OR bicarbonate of soda?
Thanks for any advice:D0 -
Don't know about the bran I looked for it a while back but could only find quite a big quantity at H&B. Too expensive, so I use wholemeal flour and an ounce of oats.
As for the baking soda, it's bicarbonate of soda.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D
