Recipe for breakfast bars anyone?

Options
I got a sizable packet of mainly nuts and seeds from Dorset Cereals, but I'd like to make them into muesli snack bars rather than just eat them with milk. I have some nuts and raisins to fill them out.

Does anyone have a recipe for this, please? (incorporating honey if possible - I have a glut of that!)

There are some recipes in the snacks and nibbles bit of our Old Style Recipe Collection that you could adapt.

You can find these via my signature any time you see it or...

..you can use the Indexed Collections link in the Blue Bar at the top of every page which looks something like this:-

    Hi All,

Im hoping you will be able to help me. I have at last found a breakfast bar I like but have since found out that it isnt available in Oz which is where I will be living shortly.

So I would like to try and make my own but I have no idea how :o

The ones I like are made my nature valley and the ingredients are -

    whole grain rooled oats
    sugar
    sunflower oil
    water
    honey
    salt
    molasses (??)
    emulsifier (??)
    soya lecithin
    raising agent
    sodium barcarbonate

Does anyone now how i could recreate these bars? I know i could try and find something different but im limited as I dont like nuts or dried fruit, these are perfect and I rather fancy making my own.

If it could be made more healthy though that would be a bonus.

Or does anyone else make their own breakfast bars? Fancy sharing a recipe or two?

    Many thanks

    Hi pixie,

I made these a couple of days ago and am going to make more this afternoon:

    Cereal/snack bars

    5 oz butter
    3 oz brown sugar
    1tablespoon golden syrup

melt in a saucepan over a low heat.

    7 oz porridge oats
½ oz mixed seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, sesame and linseed)
    ½ oz dessicated coconut
    ½ oz chopped nuts
small handful raisins or other dried fruit

Add dry ingredients into the syrup mix and stir until well coated.
Press into a well greased baking tin.
Cook at 180 degrees for around 20 minutes until lightly golden. Keep a close eye as they can burn easily.
Remove from the oven and mark slices with a knife but leave in the tin until completely cold or they’ll fall to bits when you try to get them out.

I think you could probably substitute honey and/or molasses for the golden syrup and leave out the nuts and dried fruit if you want to.

There are lots more recipes on these threads:

    muesli/cereal bars recipes?

    granola bars?

I'll add your thread to the first link later to keep the suggestions together.
