What happens to the cashback that`s due to be paid in Sept if I cancel my card now?

It won't get paid, I imagine - that's a standard trick to retain your loyalty

[Why do you want to close your Egg account anyway?]

You never get paid these cashbacks unless your account is open at the time the cashback is due.

I can't see why you'd want to close an Egg account either - they are great!

Don`t intend to use it anymore.

Keep it in a drawer or even cut it up until at least you have got your cashback. Also consider the 5 month anniversary offer that you would lose if you formally closed the card account.

Worth keeping the Egg, as suggested, both for the anniversary offer and to use it as a mule in the future, also they sometimes offer special rates ( I once got 1.9% for 5 months)

On the topic of egg cashback's I did a BT to Egg to SBT it to my Bank Account. The BT request thru Egg's website never worked so I called customer service. The girl said she would do it for me and noticed the account was in credit and asked did I make an overpayment in error. I said yes and she transferred the balance for me. I now notice on my statement that I got cashback for her doing it. On my statement it states REFUND REQUESTED - GB. Normally it would state BALANCE TRANSFER - GB.

Might be worth some other people saying it was an overpayment and could you have a refund if it's going to accrue cashback. Especially seeing as I hadn't actually qualified for any this year.

I did this with smile a couple of years ago.

I transferred in to put the credit card £20,000 in credit.

I rang them up and they transferred the £20,000 to my bank account (they did tell me off nicely for putting the account into credit, which was the only time I did it).

Anyway the next month I was credited with £100 cashback (0.5%). Smile pays cashback monthly in arrears.

Never heard anything more about this, so not sure if it was an error due to the way they treated the £20,000 credit refund or whether all transactions which remove money from the account yield a cashback.
