Tonight when I called them, they told me before I had time to ask (the standard sales speel) that from the 15th July, they will be offering line rental for £9.99 per month. I asked about the 1571 service and Caller display that I have at the moment, and they said that they will be offering all the services. It looks like good bye BT.0

Bye Bye BT?
Not sure yet, if the £9.99 line rental includes Caller Display and a couple of other features too, then maybe.
If not, then I can't see the point of saving 50 pence, when you will no longer be able to use 1899 and 18866 - all indirect access numbers will be blocked, and they will block their 0808 access numbers when they realise too many calls are being lost to them, and their terms will state you could be kicked off you using other providers.
Though I have heard BT are going to increase their line rental by £1.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
For me it will be bye bye BT. I've had so much hassle with them over the last 10 years. Even in the last 6 months it has taken 10 calls to get my bills sorted out. Their staff have not got a clue what they are doing. In the end the only way they could sort it was to cancel my DD and let my account get into arrears and then manually reinstate it!!! They don't have a clue.
My monthly phone bill is about £3 per month and most of that is to my wifes family. We are all getting set up Skype so this will drop even more.

I was thinking of leaving BT altogether,. and i am still mulling it over. But what happens if you have a problem with your phone line is it still fixed by BT.0

yes,it's the same line and exchange equipment as you already use,Talk-Talk rent it wholesale from BT and they(BT) will fix it to that point.....like Broadband faultsEx forum ambassador

Will it still be possible to use 18866? I use Talktalk for free weekend and evening calls (an offer from last summer) and 18866 during the day.0

I have to point out the obvious that by moving your line rental from BT all you are doing is paying someone else for that service. BT will still "own" and service your line except you will be furthur down the pecking order when it comes to problems as you will need to contact TalkTalk/Onetel whoever who will then have to contact BT if there is a problem.
Like most people BT have had enough of my money over the years and I only want to pay them the minimum but unless its a very good deal I am always loath to put all eggs in one basket. Hence my line rental is BT, calls TalkTalk and broadband Tesco. Should a good/better deal come up for calls or broadband I can change these separately with no problems.
And of course I use 18866 and going to try the new https://www.abroadtel.co.uk
Just my opinion, of course0 -

It is likely that you would be able to but BT is the only supplier who are obliged to allow you to use other carriers and so TalkTalk, Onetel or anyone else may change the goal posts and disallow you to use 18866 or similar.0 -

I am with TalkTalk for free evening and weekend calls, but as my line rental is via BT I can use 18866 & 1899, but this is simply because the line rental is still via BT.
If you have line rental from TalkTalk usually all indirect access numbers will be barred, OneTel do it, it's it's usually the default option in WLR. OneTel also state if you are using other carriers to make calls (this would have to be via 0808 access numbers, if they haven't yet blocked them) they will either charge you an extra fee or throw you off the service, I would have thought TalkTalk would do the same.
As much as I'd rather have my line rental via TalkTalk then BT, I don't think at this moment in time it will be worth the loss of cheap calls. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Thanks for all your helpful info in this and other links. In the circumstances i think it would be wise to keep my line rental with BT.0
