Euro Breakdown Cover

Hi
We're taking the car to France for the first time this year. The cover for 2 weeks European breakdown is £80:eek:. (This is when it's added to our standard RAC policy.) Can anyone recommend a cheaper way of doing this.

Please don't tell me to give it a miss - the car's current performance doesn't make pretty reading.:(

Also is petrol significantly cheaper in France?
TIA
I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

hiya :D i don`t know where to suggest for the best/cheapest cover but when i went to france i think it was only an extra £30 on my policy with green flag (this was a few years ago) i cant encourage you enough to get it because when my car broke down i would of been lost without it as i ended up having to get towed home all the way from france even dragged on n off the ferry :o the part i needed was going to take over a week to order in and i needed to get back to work n the 3 kids back to school, no way could i of afforded an extra weeks stay, so it was the best money i ever spent!
yes the petrol is cheaper in france, have enough in the tank to get you over there and then fill up, likewise before you come back fill up. have a fab hol!!
proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance! :p

i'm with AutoAid for breakdown cover in the UK and when I go to France they can arrange cover with EuropAssistance (I think) at competitive prices...def no 80gbp or i wouldn't have taken it.. Give them a call for a quote...01277235500 and ask about Europe cover.. Good luck.

Petrol prices have gone up in France so there isn't much of a difference now though diesel is cheaper. Have you arranged to extend your insurance - green card you'll want that as well as breakdown cover.

Green cards are no longer required in the EU - a UK insurance certificate is sufficient (as long as you are covered for driving abroad). Some insurance companies (e.g. Budget, who I'm with) include this as standard and don't even require you to notify them that you're going abroad.

Breakdown Direct did me a policy on a 10 year old vehicle for up to 18 days in France - £33.45

On the Green Card issue, you need to check that the policy covers you abroad for more than the legal minimum. All UK policies must cover 3rd party when you're anywhere in the EU, but they don't have to give you full cover so it's always best to check. That reminds me - I must check!
