Wedding gift - Help!!

Don't know how far they have got planning their big day but if you are arty-krafty you could offer to make their wedding stationary for them. Off the peg stationary is very very expensive (I used to sell it years ago) and handcrafted designs are silly money. Mrs MATH alongside her normal fee paying weddings is currently making wedding stationary for two family weddings that require us to buy a substantial gift. Not only is it working out much cheaper than buying from the wedding list they are getting something unique which they couldn't have afforded on their wedding budget. They have helped design it themselves and can keep as a momento.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

I've got to agree about the scrapbook, it's a fabulous idea - scrapbooks these days are nothing like the nasty sugar paper ones we had when we were little, they are modern, classy albums that anyone would be delighted to receive. And they're archival safe too, so they should last a lifetime (and beyond). The most popular sizes are 6 x 6", 8 x 8" and 12 x 12". The smaller ones are a lot quicker to do as you don't have so much space to fill.
Basically the idea is that you get your photos and using nice background papers (available in every colour and pattern you could think of) and embellishments, you make a feature from your piccies. Apart from anything else, it's very rewarding (and very addictive) and I can't think of a better gift for someone - I'm just about to embark on a gift album for my aunt's 75th birthday.
As well as working for the NHS I also own a scrapbook store here in Birmingham (and a custom rubber stamp company), so if anyone would like more information on how to get started, where to get inspiration and ideas etc, please let me know.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MUST ANYONE PASS THIS CRAFT OUTLET INFO ON TO Mrs MATH. She spends as much in these palces as she does on shoes:eek:Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
First Katiepops - can you post details of your shop on this post? I've just starting card making (for friends and family) and am looking for supplies like nice papers (origami papers), punches etc to build up a bit of stock. I've bought some paper from ebay, but it's not brilliantly cheap (although nice ulberry paper).
Second: Ideas for wedding gifts
1) Guest book or scrapbook is a great idea - I really wish we had done a guest book for our wedding to keep.
2) if you are a good photographer, take some informal b&w shots and print them and put them in a nice album - one of the nicest albums I ever saw was just this and was given as a surprise present - the couple loved it.
3) Homemade liquor - I've just made some limoncello from fresh lemons and vodka - yum - or sloe gin (depending on time of year) or similar - takes a bout a month to steep and get the colour and taste, then decant it into a pretty bottle
4) A nice pot for the garden with a miniature tree or architectural plant e.g. bay tree, magnolia, eucalyptus, cordyline etc - you could buy a glazed pot and decorate it yourself with stuck on glass beads
5) a nice planter planted with a selection of white/cream plants that are in flower around the time of the wedding and are perennial - to remind them each year of their anniversary e.g. spring = tulips, white narcissus, summer = daisies, chrysanthemum, white flowered hebe, hostas with white flowers etc, summer bulbs like gladioli, chincherinchee in white. This would take a little planning but would be a loely personal present I think, especially if it was there after the honeymoon - maybe even a flower from Canada?0 -
The cross stitch sampler is a great idea.
I got invited to wedding and he happened to be one of hubby's colleagues at work.
I did not know either one and he just knew the groom. They had lived together for years. We racked our brains for a pressie.
I cross stitch so had fabric and thread. Found a free chart from the DMC site of a bride and groom. I stitched that and put there names and date on it.
And when I meet the bride she said you stitched and said that it is so nice and she really gushed about it. So I assumed it did not get assgined to the bin.
It is something personal and a little bit different.
Yours

Afraid I am not at all crafty (my attempts look like nursery school projects:eek: ) so for my best friends wedding tomorrow I have purchased an acre of preserved rainforest in her & new hubbys name in Ecuador. It is very personal as it is dedicated to them, they get a certificate listed as "on the occasion of the wedding of Mr & Mrs G Jones on 30th April 2005", it even comes with a card & will take no gift wrap, plus Ecuador is special to us as it is where my Hubby & I met. Not at all home made but a good personalised gift on a budget (£25) for the non-crafty or in a hurry;)!Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

...........if you decide on plants, there are lots of roses with a wedding theme - 'rambling rector', 'the bride' and so on - any good garden centre should be able to help.

I've made samplers for weddings. I just bought a pattern and have reused it ( changeing initials and dates of course!). I also try and get the colours on the sampler to match the colours of the wedding - information not always easy to aquire! However, the cost of the sampler is not in the raw materials but in getting it professionally stretched - it looks and lasts much better than trying to do this yourself.0

As this older thread has been bumped up I'll move it over to the Weddings and Anniversaries board.
