in Credit cards
Believe it?
Edinburgh Evening News: (23 Feb 2007)
SHOPS have seen a massive rise in credit and debit card crime since the introduction of chip and pin technology, according to a report published today.
The new system was hailed as virtually fraud-proof but a survey by the Scottish Grocers' Federation (SGF) suggests card crime has soared by more than 50 per cent since 2005.
Or not?
WHICH? (Formerly the Consumers Association) (14 Feb 2007)
Since the official changeover to chip and PIN on February 14 2006, financial institutions have seen levels of card fraud slump and queues shorten at tills, according to reports.
Watchdog.
If someone stole your bank card and used it to withdraw money from your account before you had a chance to realise it was gone, you'd presume you were entitled to get your money back. Yet a number of Watchdog viewers have learned that this isn't always the case.

I hate chip and pin.
How difficult would it be to design a 3rd party handheld terminal that charged the card but also logged what was keyed into the keypad.
I now only use a credit card (which is covered against fraud) or a debit card where I implicitly trust the system (i.e. where I know the owners or in a place like a supermarket)
If they want to make the system more secure they would have used either a system that put photos on the fron of people's cards AND/OR used fingerprint recognition.
Signatures were better than chip and pin.
Da MoronIf you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.

Al, have you seen how James tried to shoehorn his paranoia on ID fraud into (in my opinion) an unrelated topic about electoral roll, a few below this one ?
The title is "Electoral Register (Bad Credit Rating)"Karma is a wonderful thing.0 -

Here's what can happen if your card's not nicked, you use your PIN to authorise a transaction, the transaction is duplicated and the bank accuses you or the retailer of fraud:
Unless you get the press involved, you're stuffed.

Bin your PIN - Sign and get a receipt, you know it's safer!0 -
Thousands of cases -v- the millions we had before?
No one said it was perfect but that it was a big improvement over what we had... and that is true.
James - why cant you move on? I think your next 500 threads should be about how the government are actually controlled by aliens.... it would be more entertaining and probably just as likely to be true as the other trash you peddleAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
