If you are in a rush then you can defrost in the microwave - also make sure any liquid added is boiling hot.

Let us know how you get on.:):):)

    No problem!

    Slow cooked baked apples
Really very easy, just take the core out of the cooking apples and then cut a line just thru the skin all the way around the middle of the apples (this stops them bursting) Fill the apples with mincemeat and then sprinkle on some demerara sugar. Put some water in the bottom of the slow cooker and cook. I leave mine on the low setting while I am at work.

A good site thank you. Like the 6 items or less section easy to collect together when in a hurry to get to work. Will bookmark this one :)

I've 'cocked up' the Brisket .........
I used about 3 to 4 lb of very lean brisket and put in slow cooker added water in to half way up with salt and pepper and two bay leaves, cooked on low for 6 hours. drained off and put onto plate to cool about 3 hrs ago and now it's rock hard and very bland..
I have kept all the juices separatley.
where have i gone wrong ?????

I know that salt makes meat go hard if you add it at the start of cooking, maybe this was it?

I do love the recipe website by the way but does anyone know how to translate american to british measurements?

    I can't understand this cup system :(

hope it works if not I have managed to get american measuring cups from Sainsburys and I think most of the supermarkets sell them quite cheaply now.

I find it easier to use American cups. My scales and the bowl that sits on it are at the back of the cupboard as the bowl is so big, so I find it easier to have the cups at hand. Sometimes though in a recipe it would be easier if they said 2 chopped carrots rather than 1 cup of chopped carrots, if you see what I mean.

Re: I've 'cocked up' the Brisket .........

I once encountered a similar problem, and realized that I had not 'sealed' the joint before putting into the Slo Cooker. Since then I have ALWAYS browned off the meat beforehand, and I've not had the problem since.
