Hi
Thanks for the advice,
We're in the process of setting up a new account - just took a while to work out which banks were left!!
I have haven't been on the eagerlearniers thread but I know my wife has. We are both on the survey sites and also use topcashback for any purchases we need to make.
I/we need to read up a bit more about a dmp - but its clear to both of us we can't carry on struggling like we are and in effect getting nowhere.
Thanks againEst. debt free day April 2016 (ish) Debt at June 2010 £34,247.13

Have you considered unenforceability on there? You'd have to look into that prior to considering any DMP though, but we'd probs get a lot of these down to nothing anyway, depends when they were taken out etc....
Have a mooch here, if you decide you don't want to pay back and you fit into the remit (i.e. before April 2007) then let me know and we'll set the ball in motion.
See this thread: Unenforceability & Template Letters IV
See this thread for a good outcome, so far 13 of 18 are unenforceable saving over £100k on one person! Just goes to show you that it can be done and can work to your advantage! Frightened about my future - part 2.

Thanks for the advice,
At the moment we have no defaults against any of our debts, so not sure if unenforceability is an option - just a couple of late payments.Est. debt free day April 2016 (ish) Debt at June 2010 £34,247.13

Ok well let me know if you change your mind. For reference, late payments remain for 6 years, as do defaults and both are as bad as each other - basically 3+ late payments will affect you for a while, the odd one/two at sparodic periods will not.
However usually people in debt do not want to go back and do the same again, ergo a default is the last thing they are worried about in fairness..... if you go on a dmp etc you'll get defaults the same as you will by going down the UE route.
Hope that all makes sense,2010 - year of the troll

Thank you so, so much for the fab advice.
I have had a look through your unenforcability thread and I think your 'Why would someone utilise unenforcability' post reassures me as to where we stand on it. I don't want to be a debt dodger - we spent it and we should repay it but if we need to use it as a last resort we would rather than lose our house.
I think there is just so much talk of credit rating and I am hyper-sensitive about my awful credit rating but, as you have pointed out, I have no intention of ever using credit cards again so a horrific credit rating shouldn't really matter. I constantly pay late (or not at all at the moment!) so guess if my credit rating is rock bottom having a few more rocks thrown at it really shouldn't matter.
I think we are both looking forward to talking to the CCCS person tomorrow just to see what options are suggested.
I spent quite a lot of time yesterday going through my survey sites and am at payout level for most of the gift voucher ones but guess it might be worth leaving them there and withdrawing for the twin's birthday/Christmas pressies.
I also had a good read through eagerlearner's clicking guide and have registered for one of the sites and did my daily clicking. I am going to take it a little slowly as I don't want to spend days doing it all, see no returns and get demotivated so I will build in a new site once I have the others sussed.
I already have a topcashback account so will add in the free clicks on there today (if I can find them!)
Last night I applied to do exam marking with one exam board so will try and apply for another tonight. Unfortunately maths is one of the hardest subjects to get into examining as it is so straightforward to do so it might not come to anything but worth a shot.Est. debt free day April 2016 (ish) Debt at June 2010 £34,247.13Debt at Dec 2011 £27,499.09 (19.7% paid off)Working together with DH on our debts (twindad07)Long haulers supporters DFW #2560 -

It is just a silly mindset isn't it? If we ever had another credit card then it would be for emergencies/anything that can only be paid for by credit card and would be paid straight off so rate wouldn't be important. We couldn't be trusted to have more than one or for it to be something kept in a wallet rather than a locked drawer so we shouldn't stress!
Once we have become debt free we will be attacking the mortgage but i supposed as we are talking 5/6 years down the line hopefully credit would have improved a tiny bit and, if it has, we could swap to a better mortgage deal and, if not, we can just stick as we are.Est. debt free day April 2016 (ish) Debt at June 2010 £34,247.13Debt at Dec 2011 £27,499.09 (19.7% paid off)Working together with DH on our debts (twindad07)Long haulers supporters DFW #2560
