I have just checked at tesco .com and the 6 and a half litre slow cooker is now £25.25 with free delivery so I ordered it while it is so cheap.

It is £5 cheaper than Argos and is now cheaper than the 3and a half litre one!

  • OK - dilema - Do I NEED that big one now or do I just WANT one. I suppose it is cheap and it will cook my large amounts of curry better than the one I have now.....will have to think about it.

I LOVE my big slow cooker which I've only had for a month. Even if there are only two people in your house, cook several meals a week in the slow cooker, freeze the rest into portions and you have instant convenience food when you dont want to cook. You know it makes sense LOL

Well, I've so far sourced the big 6.5 L Morphy Richards one at £24.51 via Amazon, with free p&p and I'll go via Greasypalm for 3% cashback. I just know I'm going to get it:)

I'll keep my 2.5 L one and as the little one is my mum's, I'd better offer her first refusal back on it - and if not I might sell it on. Or I could cook 3 things at once....soup in medium, curry in large and milk pud in small. (Am I taking this a bit far yet? :D )

Edit - I've ordered it from Tesco's (no cashback on amazon electrical stuff). Now I can try my large joints in it. ;)

I've just found my 20 yr old Slow cooker cook book:

I did a tapioca pud in mine tonight. And having looked thru my cook book, I'm tempted by the apricot conserve (I have a large bag of dried apricots to eat) and also the yoghurt! My kids live off yogs but I'm worried about the amount of sugar they consume in them - time to wean onto lower sugar I think, especially if they 'help' make them.

    :p

wow..can you really make yogurt in a slow cooker...please pleaseeee tell me how.. i get fed up with balancing old jam jars of culture along the radiators!

    Yoghurt recipe

1 pint milk (my book says UHT - don't know if that matters?)
    5 oz Natural yoghurt
    1 tbsp dried milk
    2 tsp sugar(optional)

Mix all ingredients together in slow cooker. Do not fit lid but cover with a clean folded tea-towel. Heat for recommended time or until milk reaches 43 degC (110 degF) if you have thermometer. Switch off cooker, place lid over tea-towel and leave undisturbed for 2 hours. Stir well, pour into clean basin, cover and refridgerate for at least 4 hours. Flavour as required.

Times are given for the Tower Slo-cookers on low (where available) and are for the Auto at 105W, the Family De-luxe at 80 w and Compact at 50w

Auto - approx 45 mins plus 2 hrs standing
    Family-de-Luxe 40 mins plus 2 hrs
Compact 70 mins plus 2 hrs

(Don't ask why Auto has longer when higher wattage - must be way it heats or something. I have Family one)

Let us all know how you get on :)

Thanks for this recipe, Tickle. I think mine is equivalent to the 'compact'. have you tried this recipe yourself??? I wonder if you can heat up the milk in the microwave first, to get it to the right temp?? Think ill try and experiment with this bit tomorrow! thanks again.
  • Haven't tried it myself as got a fridge full of bought yogs. Will try it soon though.

Do you use ordinary milk? Can't see why it has to be UHT. Is it because it has no bacteria in it to start with?
