    Baked Bean Curry
    • 1 can tomatoes
    • 1 tin of baked beans
    • 1 can kidney beans
    • 60ml veg oil
    • half tsp chilli
    • 2 tsp mustard powder
    • 2 tsp garam masala
    • 320g onion, sliced
    • 2 tsp garlic paste
Put onions, garlic, chilli, and spices in a pan with the oil, and cook til soft.
Add tomatoes and cook for a few minutes, until the tomato juice has reduced down to a thicker sauce.
Add baked beans and cook for a few more minutes til all cooked, hot throughout and well mixed.
    Season to taste.
Serve with 100g rice per person
    :)

Hi there, do you all think it's a bit much for Shirl to make a triple batch of the pizza on her big batch day? It's just that it will leave her with 12 x 9 inch pizzas to store! Well they could have 4 of them that night and then store 8? does that sound loopy?

    xxx

I keep asking the questions that have already been asked, and answering ones that have already been answered :o Sorry, everyone, I appear to be living in a slightly different time-line to the rest of you ! (That's a posh way of saying I am slow).

Weezl - I would batch-mix all the pizza dough at once, then proceed according to the freezer size. If I was still depending on my two draws under my little fridge, then I'd freeze balls of dough and 4-people portions of sauce separately, then just pull out of the freezer the night before pizza was due again, then roll out and assemble that evening. Now I have a big freezer, too, I'd be happy to freeze finished pizzas. Perhaps give both options in the batch cooking guide, what do you reckon ?

Further batch-cooking thoughts: tomatoey pasta sauce should obviously only be cooked once, and frozen in portions. HowlinWolf - do you think same can be done with your Alfredo sauce, then Shirl just has a quick job of assembling the final dish before bunging it in the oven on the actual night ?

    Better Butter Spread

    250g butter
    half cup veg oil
    80ml milk
Let butter come to room temperature & whip. Slowly add oil until all is incorporated. Pack into container & refrigerate.

would anyone be willing to test this?

I have based it on proportions old-style threads say has worked for some people, but even if the texture fails, it would work in pastry, crumble topping, cakes...still, so hopefully not too much of a risk :)

I will be interested to see result of that - as I've decided I'm not even very happy with the high-quality (trans: most expensive) buttery spreads - as I dont know which particular oil they are using - so its probably one I wouldnt use myself. Butter, however, is so darn hard (trans: impossible) to spread outa the fridge (or even when its been sitting in the kitchen for hours) - hence why I resorted to buttery spreads.

So - if this results in a spreadable "spread" - then I would be interested to swop and use this instead of readymade "buttery spread" (in my case - using oil of my choice).:D

Managed to get natco cornmeal in sainsburys today. It has no information with ingredients and reads like its not been fortified, as its says something like freshly milled in the UK. I have emailed them to ask if it has and what calcium is in it. Hopefully that will answer the question on the natco front. I guess we need to contact the other company that you had down for cornmeal.

Ceredwin I can tell you it spreads beautifully even from the fridge. You must have missed that one in A.D's books
