Do HSBC offer an upgrade to their basic account on account conduct?

I have 3 ccjs due to the bloody water company and several defaults so no change of getting a current account.

Anyone in a similar position had any success with upgrades with HSBC?

I know this is not what tou asked, but I got an Halifax EasyCash account which I never used, and they accepted me for a Reward Current account, although they didnt let me 'upgrade' as such...

I didnt know the water board can CCJ you?
  • Hiya

No they do not. HSBC only operate bahavioural score based on existing credit related products. If you have a basic account and try and upgrade you'll need a full credit search unless they done this within 6 months (i.e. account review).... HSBC are strict actually, even with existing customers...

  • Yes - Northumbrian Water do not mess about. I have even just received paperwork from Northampton County Court with regards to this and i havent received any bill or acknowledgement from them before now.

I think they are out to get me!!!

Thanks for the heads up with HSBC - thought that.

Any ideas if my partner had a basic account with Barclays and if i was to be added what sort of checks would be done?

Is it easier than opening an account on my own?

I have an existing debt with Barclays dating back to 2003 which is unpaid and also been declined (12 months ago) for their basic account, probably due to the debt.

Worry not! Lets get it struck off then eh? Send a private message to 10past6 and he'll tell you what to do to get the CCJ removed - it seems unlawful from what you're stated so far!

I'll also PM him pointing him to this thread, he is an expert on these types of queries....

I know, but when you're in - you're in (so to speak).... they are a great bank (IMO the best).. :D

They would perform the same checks as a new application for you, why not just try yourself? See comment below about your old account....

Did you last pay in 2003? If you last paid anytime prior to January 2004 then it is statute barred and you should never pay anything, the lender is breaking the law asking you to as well.

However, once you confirm the date you last used the account I can advise better - also, did you get a default and if so what was the default date? If the default is still live (only if they added it after Feb 2004) this could affect their decision as they would be able to still see it....

Hope the above helps - post back about Barclays and i'll be able to advise better :D

Does that include having a basic account?

Does that include a basic account with HSBC? i presume that will be the hardest to get out of all the basics then

    With regards to Barclays -

Opened the account in 2003. It probably defaulted around 2004-2005 more towards 2005.

It was for around £1500 when i was a student.

I have never used the account since 2004 i think.

There is nothing on my Equifax credit report stating that i have a default, however there definately was one. It may have even dropped off or maybe it only shows on my Experian repory, for which i dont have.

    Hope this helps

Well no, a basic account is not credit scored as such so exclude that from anything i'm saying as I have full accounts but suffice to say you cannot realistically be upgraded from basic to full current without a credit search being performed - existing customer or not. The difference is that if you've banked with them for like 3 years and they have a history on you then they may use an internal score to override the automatic decline assuming any derogatory data was present.

Defaults drop off after 6 years..... chances are it has already been 6 years i'd assume :D:D:D

Do you admit / dispute / deny the debt?
Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional
  • Well technically i admit the debt due to the fact i live at the address at this time and not paid a water bill.

My arguement is that i have not received any bill from them whatsoever, yet they have my details to issue me a Court letter.

I feel they are using this tactic in order for me to guarantee payment without even giving me a chance to make a payment or even set a direct debit up for monthly payments, they just rush to the Courts?!
