I think that you will find lots of dirt on Barclays if you care to look. This massive machine has done everything to be where it si today. Thier extortionate charges have been invested in every dirty scam going: Support to Apartheid, Support to Rbert Mugabie, Columbian drugs laundering and involvement in the arms trade.
I wouldnt touch them with a barge pole0 -
Oh dear! Did no one look at the article's date?! August 2006!
ISTM that some folk are desperate to stir up anything detrimental to any bank,0 -

The OP asked a question. I answered it with the most likely article it was. To be honest, why they wanted it for or what they wanted it for, I couldn't really be bothered to ask since it has no relevance to bank charges reclaiming. Hopefully the thread will slowly but surely disappear again.......I suspect no one knows how to use a google search a lot of the times that kinda question is asked0 -

At least it was this century;)
The post above yours relates to Barclays involvement in South Africa (along with all the other large comanies like Ford, General Motors, BP, etc)in the late 70's/early 80's. I think Barclays pulled out of South Africa in 1986. iirc, but no doubt they have interests there today.
It's difficult to avoid a company as large as Barclays in the UK today. Not only have they gobbled up a number of other financial brands (e.g. Woolwich, Standard Life Bank, etc) but I would be surprised that money invested in things like pensions, endowments, many general equity based savings plans (ISAs, unit trusts, child savings trusts, etc) etc, doesn't have some money invested in Barclays."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
@Premier.I think your point about difficulty of avoiding a company group ( any in fact) is a very valid one. IMHO it is possible that some of the maligned ones may have as good a record as the apparently squeaky clean ones. They just get the publicity.0
