I said, I'd rather not, I'm testing a recipe, if we have it again, you can have whatever you want in it - and he went off seemingly quite happy, I expected more resistance than that!
thanks Lesley. Am very excited to hear yours and DH's responses later
Allegra, loving risi e bisi (have you spotted my dodgy italian in the meal planners? Do please correct it!) would a spoon of pesto work in lieu ofparsley and cheese component? xxx:D

:DI have no wish to earn anything from it. I would happily do this for nowt. MSE attracts millions of people, and if I want to offer a resource to Bob and shirley, I feel they may most likely find it here.
I'll stay unless it seems to hamper what we're doing or the MSE team feel it is inappropriate forum material.
How does that sound?
I reckon it might be nice to have your meal plan on separate site as well. Much akin to hillbilly housewife's $45 emergency menu. I found that site months before I found MSE and it's nice to have it all in the one place. But here too, I agree. More people that find it the better. :T
P.S. I may be working on super secret veganised version of this meal planner. And I may be fizzling with uber-geek excitement at all the number play. Shhhhh :rotfl:0 -

I suppose it will be James and Kitty's plan. I like them having names. It's exciting. I'm going to try and see if it's possible to stick to some of the original plan meal ideas to see if they can be veganised within a slim budget or whether vegans may have to eat totally different foods in order to get all their nutrients. Interesting methinks.0

Lesley_Gaye wrote: »was looking through a couple of recipe books last night and saw a recipe by Tamasin Day Lewis that involved just a whole cabbage of about a kilo and 750g sausages, slow cooked. She was raving about it and saying how wonderful it was.
If we used Asda SP sausages £1.06Kg and a white cabbage at 50p for a Kg that would be 80p for the sausage and 50p for the cabbage, total of £1.30 or 32p a portion
worth a go?
Lesley Aldi currently have savoy cabbage on offer at 29p eachWhy pay full price when you may get it YS0 -

oooh excellent - I try not to eat too much meat, but also don't like many cheesy veggie meals so often we have vegan type stuff. I have had a play with frugalising this. Thoughts so far
pastry 100g sr flour, 50g spread, 2 tsp mustard
blind bake pastry case
chop beetroot into 1" pieces, toss beetroot (not sure of qty yet) in 2 tblsp oil and 1 tsp sugar and caramelise in a frying pan
parcook 100g beans cut into 1" pieces, drain well. Add to beetroot along with 100ml pureed toms from one of the tins, 25g salted peanuts, chopped and 25g grated cheese
Mix well and put into cooked pastry case, heat through in oven until cheese is melted
Serve with the chutney and poss pot wedges. Would probably work better in 4x4" individual tart tins
Haven't tried it yet, OH not keen on beetroot. Any volunteers? Otherwise might do a half qty for myself only
Any thoughts on frugalisation? Have used only ingredients from list, would be nice to have some herbs so we could do finely chopped rosemary in the pastry or thyme in the filling, but as Weezl says, this just has to be 'good enough' not gourmet0
