    11.7 Consequential loss

Where the Payer claims consequential loss as a result of an erroneous Direct Debit payment, the Paying Bank will claim this from the Originator on a separate Indemnity Claim form. Consequential loss must be fully justified by the Payer and this justification attached to the claim to the Originator. Paying Banks are not required to undertake immediate refunds in respect of consequential loss claims...

You need to raise a formal complaint to Nationwide, in writing.

It is obviously the fault of Lloyds for raising the DD in the wrong account, but it seems incredibly petty of Nationwide to say tough and not refund the charges. They really should give you your money back, and then claim from Lloyds if they are so desperate to bill someone. I really feel for you as this is a shocking situation that should be sorted out straight away, it seems all logic has disappeared these in the banking system, and it just highlights the greed of banks themselves. I would do as Noh says and raise a formal complaint with Nationwide.
