AA Internet Extra (Issue 1) - 3.15% gross p.a. / AER (3.30% if £50,000+)

Hi Everybody,
The AA have introduced this instant access account which has no strings except that the interest rate includes a 12 month introductory bonus and you have to link it to an account with a direct debit facility.
Link: AA Internet Extra (Issue 1)
I have never had an account with the AA although I understand that their accounts are operated by Birmingham Midshires and that they are part of the HBOS group (which is relevant for savings safety if you have more than £50,000 in HBOS accounts).
I can see from their interest rates page that they have lots of accounts with very similar names where the interest rate has plummeted.
What is the forum's experience of saving with AA?
All the best,
SS2

Service: Fine.
Rate: Like with most providers keep an eye on it and tart yourself around to the highest bidder when they start to manage the rate down!0 -
I've got one of the new accounts as the service is good. However, deposits and withdrawals can only be made by DD from a linked account. When depositing, it can take up to a week for the funds to be cleared. No sign of faster payments yet so not as convenient as some accounts.0

Everyone seems to be happy with them.
Having just opened one myself, it all seems to be going very smoothly so far.0 -

Really? From their FAQs page it saysWhat is your sort code and account number?
If your bank allows you to make an electronic transfer from your bank's Internet account, or arrange a standing order, you may be able to send money to your AA Internet Extra account by using the following details:
Account name The AA
Sort code 20-97-78
Account number 70372609
Reference Your AA Internet Extra account number
Please note that this type of payment will reach your account within four banking days. We will not charge you for using this service.
Please note that if you are not given the opportunity to enter a reference number, you should not use this method to send us money, as it will not be applied to your account.
And that sort code is listed as accepting faster payments (inwards) on the APACS sort code checker.
(I haven't actually tried any of this yet, my account has only just been opened and not yet funded).0 -
Hi All,
Just wondering if there is an update to previous post, i.e. is it possible to make electronic transfer into/from the AA Internet Extra - has anyone successsfully carried out a transaction yet.0 -

Don't forget that AA, HBOS, Saga, Birmingham Midshires are all covered by a single £50k FSCS limit....0

Rats. They have dropped the rate yesterday (issue 3) to 2.8% just when I was about to open one. Ah well... you snooze you lose.0
-
But for those with Issues 1 and 2, the rates are still being held (for the moment) ...
