Due to move into a new property on Monday, its privately rented.
The previous tenant has given the landlord the name of British Gas as supplier for both, British Gas have no record of supplying the property.
I have just phoned both National Grid and EDF who have told me that there is no supplier for the address
and that i am free to register with whomever i chose to.
So my question is can i set it up online because it isnt transferring from anyone and who is the best to go with?
Its a 3 bed house with quarterly meters there is somebody at home 90% of the time. Family consists of myself and my 2 young children with baby due in January.
Currently in a 2 bed house in the same area spending £15 every 2/3 weeks on a key meter.
With the gas i have no idea of the usage as have had the same problem with this property and the landlord has only just figured it out.
Washing machine is used 3/4 times a week as is the tumble dryer, one tv on for most of the day and the laptop is on most of the day also. New house has built in electric oven and hob i have been using gas whilst here.
Can anyone help? I really am completely clueless when it comes to things like this
Thanks in advance

uSwitch will tell you which company is best for you. Go through that switching process, you will need meter serial numbers and start readings for when you take/took over the tenancy, dont be paying bills for previous tenants.
If you pay £30 for gas and £30 for electric I would say with controlled usage that should see you through the winter without underpaying0 -
You can't switch supplier if you haven't got an existing supplier!
If you are certain the property is a shipperless site, you'll need to contact a supplier of your choice and hope you get someone who understands the process to first register a shipperless site.
You can't do this online. Call them. Good luck!"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Any suggestions as to who is best to go with though?
I honestly am clueless when it comes to this i usually just stick with the supplier that is currently there and open a new account in my name
Have never come across this before :eek:0 -

Not really. As its a new property to you, you have no idea on the amount you will consume. You can't even ask the previous tenant as if it is a shipperless site, they won't have ever had a bill.
Who is 'best' normally means who is cheapest for your usage. Without that data, it really is pot luck.
Just ensure whoever you sign up with doesn't tie you in for an extended period. Then once you have been in the property a while and got a good idea how much energy you consume, you can do a comparison and switch if necessary.
Probably in this case, 'best' would be finding a supplier who knows, and is prepared to go to the bother of, registering a shipperless site.

Just a quick update for you i managed to get to the bottom of it with both the current property and the new property.
About 5 years ago all the house were renumbered and the roads renamed and new postcodes were issued the suppliers have been sending those bills to the old addresses which dont exist anymore so for the past 5 years no gas and electric bills have been paid
Current property is with EON and i have a bill outstanding from the meter readings i took when i moved in and current meter readings for £43 not bad considering its been since June :j
The new property is supplied by British Gas for both gas and electricity and i have just set up a new account starting from Monday :j
Once i have an idea on my consumption in the new house i may well be back to try and get it cheaper
Thanks for all your help :j0
