Club La Costa - too good to be true?!

Ok so this is going to sound like I am really stupid BUT - I had a phonecall saying that I had won a holiday for up to 4 people (we just pay booking fee £24.50 pp), we need to attend a presentation in Lakeside to collect £50 vouchers and to claim our 'prize'. IF we go and it turns out to be a scam is there anything we can do? OR, is there a tiny chance they might genuinely be tring to promote their resorts by sending people there FOC?
Any input would be much appreciated

Ive been on a CLC promo holiday. Their resorts (They OWN quite a few, and also have access to all RCI inventory), are fantastic, accom is 5*.You are under no obligation to buy although they are very good at selling their product. From CLC direct, it is very overpriced, resale via ebay or "CLCmembers forum" you can buy points for around 10p in the £ of original price.I definetely dont think its a scam- just an overpriced holiday club0

I too have had the phone call saying i had won a holiday but heard lots of bad things saying it would be a time share etc and also that they keep you in the meeting for hours.
Having said that my parents friends are members of this club and are going to Tenerife in a few weeks with my parents to a 5* hotel they go on quite a few holidays each year xx0 -
Unless you have got more money than sense keep away from CLC.0

I met a couple when I was on holiday in Tenerife last mth they had bought points with CLC 4 yrs ago. They said they tried to opt out within the cooling off period but could never get through to CLC. They got a solicitor to look through the paperwork & sort things out for them but there was nothing he could do.
This year was the 1st time they had been able to use their points & they'd had to use RCI. Even that cost them all the points for the last 4yrs.
Every time they picked a hotel with CLC they said it was full.
They'd paid over £20.000 + £800 maintenance fees per year & don't know what to do because they said you just can't give the points back.
My OH also won a holiday with them to Turkey but not going.
I'd stay well away from them!!!!0 -
Keep away from CLC , you never get what you were promised and for the amount of money that you pay it is a dead loss. To get the dates you want they refer you to RCI , then you have to pay them a supplement.
Stick to a travel agent and get what you want when you want.

Had my call today. Completed 20 second survey at Alicante airport a few weeks ago with very charming English chap. Caught on the way to the gate and thought I was being helpful rather than for any reward - doh! Of course a free holiday is too good to be true, so Googled and found this Forum. The current freephone is 0800 988 9900. From my experience few people resist the very clever sale pitch. Having once worked for a UK timeshare company, I warned my own parents, who thought they could have a free weekend, and they still bought.0

I run an independent site with about 50% happy about the product. Mostly, people come to my site to buy/sell/rent an ownership at a fraction of the cost or rent directly from existing owners. Its nothing to do with Club la Costa, but many of their own resorts are really good and if you get the chance to go on the low cost try before you buy, then its well worth it. My site also shows that you CAN give the points back. Its not difficult and proof is on the site, with over 3000 registered members and over 19,000 posts to prove it. You do have to sit through a presentation, but you're not forced to buy and besides, there is loads of help on our site to guide you through it. wwwdotclcmembersdotcodotuk0

Well, that means that 50% are not happy with the product, I wonder why ? Keep away from these Costa cowboys is my advice. Do not be enticed by false promises.
Remember that a Timeshare salesperson starts lying as soon as they open their mouth.0
