  • Talktalk have spin doctors Tony Bliar would have been proud to employ - they generally describe an increase in charges as being necessary to remain competitive with BT :rotfl:

I'm with talk talk, I like it that mobiles can be barred from the exchange.

With BT you have to bar mobiles & non local calls, can't bar mobiles on their own.

TT seem to be constantly shooting themselves in the foot with this sort of thing. More or less coincident with the introduction of this charge increase they also rolled out their privacy pack, which gives you the same service for free. Go to My Account and select Manage my services. There you can deselect the Caller display option (£2.50 pm) and add Privacy pack (free).

Make sure you check it's been registered a couple of days later, as there were some difficulties with this in my case.

If you complain via their feedback form, you possibly get the charges to date refunded.

    Hi,
How smooth is the transition from paid-for Caller ID to the Privacy one? Will I be without it for a period of time?

We've got one of those phones that recognises the number and lets you record a message against it so that gets played when they are phoning (obviously a loud siren goes off when its the mother-in-law:rotfl:) it requires caller id

Seamless technically. I got the charges prorata refunded on the (old, £1.50pm) caller display that I had paid for at the beginning of the charging period.

    Hi fluffboo,

As others have said TalkTalk have introduced a privacy pack service which offers caller display free of charge. If you have any difficulties in changing the services over in My Account or you are not registered for online account management we can make the changes for you at https://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums. You should not experience any loss of the caller display service.

    Cheers

They're trying to offset the "free" 0870 and 0845.

Doesn't matter how much you say it, it's not "free".

Please can you put this in the weekly email, I'm currently trying to get other talk talk members on their own forum to Demand they refund as this is daylight robery

They are trying to claim they couldn't let everyone know, strange how they can all let us know when they want to sell their Boosts and indeed how they can make the effort to sell the service in the first place!

Poor on them to comment on BT, I was on BT and they introduced free caller display years ago on privacy pack, and automatically moved people!

Sigh, reminds me of a long time ago when argos would have different catalogue numbers for offers and rip unwilling customers off (talking a very long time ago!)

Come on :money: this is a ripe stinker

    Ps.

I have previously read if you want to move from talktalk go via the post office as they don't charge re-connection or force an 18 month contract upon you, is this still true as I'm now keen to ket away from these rip off merchants
  • I'd just like to update,

talktalk are basically sticking 2 fingers up at all their customers saying they cannot refund a service that has been used, my argument with them is they're taking advantage of customers by offering it free and NOT transfering them to the free service or notifying them.

the topic on thier support forums is here:

Still no mention of this in the newsletter, what else can I do - would ofcom be interested ?
