Thanks for that pavlos_dog - very useful to know...

We’ve managed to make an extra £500 payment due to opening the account near the end of the month, so we have £6,500 in there and are hoping to get a little more than suggested £325 in interest. From the savings and investments forum, Dagobert suggests a potential £367.26 gross if we managed to hit the optimum transfer dates.
Well, as reported above, the Halifax 10% regular saver finished today. Wait for it... we got a pleasant £360.69 in interest. That was the good news.
Unfortunately, I was hoping we could faster payment the £6,860.69 sitting in there earning 0.1% interest into a better savings account ASAP, but apparently the faster payments option is only applicable from the current account (which we don't have).
We can't transfer the money out until Monday 29th - the earliest date the pages gave us and this is going to take 3 days, so that's Wednesday 1st July. Boo
Mrs Bliss got this confirmed via telephone from Halifax, who helpfully suggested that we leave £1 in the web saver account, as if you want to transfer and close the web saver account at the same time, this can take an extra 24 to 48 hours.

Today the mortgage is £53,992.77. Anyone who follows the MFW 2009 thread may have noticed that I decided to overpay the mortgage by £25.00 on Saturday. This was mainly due to the extra Halifax interest. So the mortgage in the next few days should look something like this:
Monday: 53,999.84
Tuesday: 53,981.91 (£25.00 should clear by Tuesday)
Wednesday: 53,988.98
Thursday: 53,996.05
Friday: 52,978.12 (1st July payments clearing by today)
So, in short it looks like we won’t hit the £54,xxx’s again. :j
I’ve calculated that we need £2,200 to cover direct debits, monthly saver payments and mortgage payments / overpayments come the first of July. Fortunately, we just have enough – we currently only have £2,250 in accessible savings until the Halifax money comes through on Wednesday.
Knew some months ago it was going to be tight, but to have just £50 spare – that’s very, very tight.

Was looking at uzubairu's month end mortgage stats this morning, here:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=22903203&postcount=123
and as a result, I've this evening added some info to my stats so that the breakdown between standard payments and overpayments can be distinguished. I've also slightly altered the colours to just highlight the overpayments, plus alter the balance to green.

Well we're into July already. Normally on the first of the month, I take the meter readings and submit them online to Scottish Power. Unsurprisingly, I've done the same again today.
Here's now it stacks up for January to June:
Electric (Units / Cost):- January: 331 / 36.04
- February: 313 / 33.77
- March: 295 / 32.90
- April: 268 / 30.31
- May: 251 / 29.05
- June: 239 / 27.78
- January: 65 / 68.22
- February: 55 / 57.53
- March: 42 / 45.49
- April: 23 / 27.34
- May: 14 / 19.07
- June: 9 / 14.23
- January: 396 / 104.26 / 22.75
- February: 368 / 91.31 / 8.45
- March: 337 / 78.39 / 7.06
- April: 291 / 57.65 / 26.41
- May: 265 / 48.12 / 47.29
- June: 248 / 42.01 / 74.28
I've this month grabbed the graph that Scottish Power generates from my data:
Now, electric and gas meter readings are easy. They are tucked away at the side of our house and can be read discreetly.
We're also on a water meter. This is at the front boundary of the property (with no wall). I've took a reading today and am hoping to track the water usage for the remainder of the year. So, no water to report today - just a July starting value.

Seems to be a problem with the MSE forums...
Quick check shows that I'm currently the only logged in user.
It appears to be logging me out as soon as I log in. I've ticked the "remember me" and this has kept me logged in. Mind you, think something is broke!

Had quite a busy few days, so haven’t really had much time to post on here, so here’s a quick update regarding the mortgage numbers…
July mortgage payment / overpayment cleared on Friday 3rd July. I updated the graphs on post 1 on Friday evening, and then got distracted (can’t remember why) and didn’t post an update. Mortgage on 3rd July was £52,977.86 and I’ve just updated my signature to reflect that.
Total payments to the mortgage have now broke through the £60k, ie £61,185.95 and total mortgage interest is currently at £19,163.81, ie heading ever nearer £20k.
I’ve also updated the info in post #1. No change to my own estimate to be mortgage free – currently it’s still August 2014.

We stumbled upon the Haven experience, via a Daily Express 4 day break offer in 2007 and we have been going back there off and on ever since.
And when your kids are 5 and 3 (daughter turned three last week), you don’t really have to spend that much in order to have an enjoyable break with them. Our view is holidays are what you make then and we have a pile of website printouts and information to sift through for days out during our holidays.
Holidays for 2009 are now as follows:
Number one.
Back in January we booked a caravan at the Wild Duck Haven complex near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. This is for 7 nights from 20th July. I’m off a second week at the end of July and we are currently considering taking the tent up to Scotland somewhere for a few nights in preparation for “two”.
Number two.
Looking for a second break and liking the Haven pools, entertainment, child friendly complex etc, we started playing around with dates for Haven sites that did camping and caravanning until we discovered we could get a four night camping break with electric hookup for a total of £20 in August (a fiver a night). So, we’re booked at the Blue Dolphin complex for four nights from 31st August.
Number three.
I’ve been keeping an eye on the UK holidays forum recently and looking at threads such as the Sun £9.50pp holidays, Daily mail holidays etc. On further analysis of the Sun £9.50 holidays, you collect the vouchers, select dates and locations and are literally entered into a “lottery” for free places.
So, despite the Daily mail holiday being more expensive, starting at £10pp or £15pp, we have just booked a caravan on-line for 3 nights (Fri-Sun) at the Haven Haggerston Castle site at the beginning of the October half term, as you could immediately view / book what was available. Could not find a single 4 night break w/c 26th October, ie half term.
This cost £15pp, ie a cost of £60 for us 4. There are service charges (£9.99 each) and entertainment passes (£7.50 x 4 or x 3 if daughter is excluded) on top of this which should come in at £62.46 or £69.96 – ie a total of £122.46, but compared to a Haven half term quote of between £305 and £505 for 3 nights, that’s certainly a saving.
Decided to up from standard to “luxury” as while standard has just one fire in the living room, luxury has heating throughout, which may be needed come October.
Think that’s enough holidays for this year.

Sounds like you are getting some fab holidays in at those prices. I agree holidays are what you make them and they should be for the children two. I wanted to ask your opinion as I am planning a family break for my big 40 next year and my sister kids will be 6 and 3 next year so close to yours in age. I had originally planned a 3 night break at a sports/activity hotel in Devon as we love going there and play golf. It is full board and quite cheap for drinks etc.
There are children's activities but it is mainly sport and crafts. I am also going to invite my mum and dad so would be someone to look after the kids not just their mum and dad. Bearing in mind these kids don't speak English do you think it would work? Would I be better off booking a holiday cottage somewhere for everyone to stay at and we can then go out and do our own activities.
I have no kids so hope you don't mind me asking.Save £12k in 25 No 49
