So how come I get told off for posting when catowen is late but all you get is thanks. This forum is developing rules for some and rules for others. Oh to be one of the elite:rolleyes:

Just looked at yesterday's paper, this was posted 6 -7 hours later than the program, so probably a fair assumption, that the normal OP wasn't going to post, for some reason.

I personally don't think it matters who posts a competition, but I do understand for certain reasons, it is best not to post the "regular" comps. Because it prevents confusion and maintenance issues (p'ing off the board guides:D).

Now, if you were willing to commit to doing it every day, 6 - 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year (asking someone to do it when unable to yourself), I'm sure the regular OP would be willing to let you have a go.

Of course with that "glory" is also the "abuse". For being late, for occasionally getting the answer wrong, for not putting the prize accurately or at all, for answerng the same questions again and again and again about how many times you can enter, what constitutes an entry and what doesn't etc.

I know what my answer was, when I was "difficult" about it, when I started comping regularly:o

So do you want to take on this onerous commitment? Are you willing to do it every day? I expect the answer will be yes. Don't be late and don't be wrong and be "reasonably nice" to everybody, no matter how horrible or stupid you think they are.

I have to go to work soon, soon play nicely every one :D

It is very good of people like Catowen to be so dedicated to this role and I understand that it's extra work for Board Guides if people post twice but I think the tone is somethimes a bit severe when people encroach on regular posters' competitions. I'm sure that people are only trying to be helpful but they do tend to get their heads bitten off. A quick 'Thanks a lot for posting this but please be aware that responsibility for posting this type of competition is delegated to such and such member so in future please can you wait a bit longer?' is far more polite than some of the posts I've seen. Tone is hard to judge at times but unless you do want to give an impression of an 'elite' and make newer members feel alienated or unwelcome then it's necessary to moderate comments and take into account that people probably just didn't know it was such sacred ground.

Personally,I don't feel there is a "elite".Once I started using the comps board more I just saw how postings etc played out and stuck to the general convention..I'm just grateful for the regular posters and I appreciated that it takes time to understand the board. Why not just be happy that we have this great resource to use.

I think there is an obvious elite because they put a hell of a lot of work into this. BUT, I don't think they're nasty or anything, what I mean is that if someone comes on and their first post happens to be encroaching on a regular then they shouldn't be made to feel like they're being naughty. What if they leave for good because of a feeling they're not welcome?

I've never felt like I was encroaching but I feel I took the time to get the "feel" of the board. If someone jumps straight in there is no need for anyone to be rude but the comping guides are there for a purpose.I'll leave my bit at that as I'm happy with they way the board is ran.Pm me if you need to discuss further:D
  • As this post is already at the top of todays list, I hope that nobody feels I am bumping this thread.
Thank you Catowen for regularly posting these comps and thank you to Korky for posting in her absence.
Yes, sometimes there are some regular posters on here that can be a bit sharp, but that said they are posters that contribute a great deal to this site.
I rarely venture into the chat area of this forum, but I have read Velvets sticky, which is something that we should all do every now and again to remind us of how these forums work. We definately should make sure that all comps are searched before posting, we should all be polite and thank posters for their hard work, but that said maybe the people who are quick to make "sharp" comments should stop to think how others could feel alienated by their comments.
Good luck everyone, may there be some brilliant wins for some of us today.

this is all getting out of hand, i personally think korkythekat done right to post the real deal comp as it was posted ages after the programme started, i also think that there is no need to say thanks on all the itv comps and puzzel comps a personal thanks can be pm'd or said in the compers inn if needed i dont type thanks but i press the thanks and i am very very grateful to all that posts comps.
    nuff said.

I think people press thanks to remind themselves they've entered the competition as well as to say thanks for posting it. And yeah, nobody is criticising Korky, I was responding to Gollum's disatisfaction. I won't say any more on this, made my thoughts clear, don't wanna clog unneccessarily.

I think the problem is only with these tv competitions. Most people know there are certain people who post them and as they are normally posted as they appear, they are basically impossible to search for.
The problems happen when people who dont know, or dont care post them as well - which causes extra work for the board guides.

Now, as an example most people know that i post the ITV comps, so on Saturday, when the Mr and Mrs Comp came on, people would leave it, because i would be posting it. Now, just as i went to post the comp on Saturday, i lost internet connection, and had to reset my wireless network. This took a couple of minutes, and then the comp was posted as normal, all but a few minutes later than it was broadcast. This doesnt happen a lot, but has happened in the past. Now anyone looking on the board at that time, having seen the comp on the tv but not appearing immediately might then be tempted to post it themselves, not realising my computer is in the process of sending it, and then there would be 2 versions of it, so the BG has to merge them, and what has been happening resently, people 'telling off' the additional poster - i would like to add that hasnt been me, which is why i got upset the other day when it looked like some were having a go at me, when all i had done is post the competitions that i always do.

This is why, it is much better, just for these TV comps be left to those who post them regularly - maybe we need it added to Velvet Gloves comp sticky for those who do read it - they are the only comps that are better left to one person at a time and although no competition should be 'owned' by one person, maybe with these there is a case for the TV comps.

I hope ive explained that properly (and sorry for my bad spelling) and im not saying this just because i post the majority of tv comps, im just getting a bit fed up at some people 'having a go' over something i havnt stated! - Im off to watch This Morning now, there is a competition im going to post on in a bit!!!
