That is what I dont understand about the government help that is given to those who didnt take out mortgage protection. Why? Why provide help to those that didnt plan for the worst?

Anyway, the qualifying period for MI is 13 weeks from the start date of the Income Related side, I dont think the delay will have made much difference to the mortgage.

They pay rent for people who haven't planned for the worst, and they don't have to wait for 13 weeks brefore claiming.

Whys should someone unable to pay a mortgage be treated any differently?

To the OP, I have no help to offer you but hope something is sorted soon.

I dont particuarly want people to get their rent paid either and nor am I a fan of endless benefit entitlement for those who are fit for work. Just with mortgages people tend to whinge at the benefits office more than for anything else.

Perhaps your incapable of understanding this concept. But let me ask you how you would plan to purchase an insurance when you have a negative disposable income?
I wouldnt, and didnt, take the mortgage, because I couldnt afford the insurance to go with it.

Its your mess - prevention is better than cure.

It is my problem, and one that I am hoping, though this enquiry, to gain a perspective as to my best path out of it.

You are obviously incapable of distilling a simple wisdom: lower outgoings are easier to manage than higher ones when you have a negative disposable income.

A mortage was my cheapest option and my objecive was to reduce my costs. Forgive me but you seem to think that higher costs, rent plus maintaining the then debts was a better route.

After reading your post,I feel very sorry for you.Stress is an awful thing that can come up and engulf us without us knowing. Surely you can say that you were looking for work to the best of your ability, which you now realise wasnt at up to ur usual self. The whole point is , is that you were looking as best as you could. If you believe you are suffering from severe stress/depression then i would first see your doc and then see what your options are with regard to any benefits. I f your doctor deems you as unfit to work for a while then i would suggest you ask about income support until you are well enough to work / apply for jsa.

The OP has stated a very valid reason why he didn't take out PPI, and people still deserve to be shown a little compassion. Sometimes even if people do have insurance in place, the insurance company refuses to pay out due to some loophole or other.

OP, I hope you get this the help you need soon. I'd advise you to make an appointment with your doctor asap.
Owing to financial constraints, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off until further notice. :(

He would not be able to claim IS because he is unfit for work.

If he is unfit for work he would need to claim ESA.
  • Thanks chaps for the latter comments and sympathy. Yes I am planning to see the doctor, would have gone today but other problems I wont bore you with got in the way, thats hopefully for tomorrow but I am still loath to disrupt the claim by altering my status. The worst contributor to the stress was the bankruptcy and that at least is mostly behind me.

Now at last I can concentrate on looking for work again anyway.

I'm just so dissapointed with the amount of time this thing has taken and then to have it further held up because of my condition in the circumstances I have outlined is a severe kick in the teeth, particularly if I now loose my house.

I haven't been unemployed by the way for 33 working years, have paid a lot of NI, the recent self employment aside (a desperate move), I was an employer for 13 years. A lot of Tax and a lot of NI. Now to be treated in this detached mannor by DWP sticks in my throat. And to cap it all when I told the woman where I sign that I hadnt really done much over the last 2 weeks because of the stress, all she could do was to exclaim "Is that nothing?". I asked her could she not understand that I might be a little stressed and she said "No. You dont know anything about my situation. I still have to come to work" Firstly what has her situation got to do with mine, and secondly tell me who would work for someone for three and a half months whilst only having received one small pay packet and without really knowing whether they were going to get another.

Sorry that really was a winge of a paragraph, anyway thanks again to those with a little compassion and understanding.
