Lower the cost of vets bills......

The only vet within reach charged me £109 to have a tom cat neutered. I later took in my Jack Russell for the same op. Cost £180 - and he was smaller than the cat. Other vets were chargeing £60 for a cat, and £75 for a small dog, but I had no transport. I used to work for the RSPCA clinic, and know just how quickly these ops are done. On both occassions I delivered the animal 2 hours before the op, and collected 2 hours after the op, so why was there a "boarding fee" of £18 added to the bill? I queried this and was told that was because a veterinary nurse had to monitor them until they recovered. She wasn't. She was sitting out back with a cigarette and a cup of coffee. I thought that this service was included under "Veterinary Care". I have now changed vets and my daughter provides the transport. Even paying for her petrol I am £££'s better off.0

You should have paid for a taxi and gone to a vet that charged sensible prices. I know Windsor is expensive but not sure why you went back for a second op. Surely a taxi would still have been cheaper?0

I love this stuff - it screws the skin up real bad and gives them a nice ongoing mild skin infection which causes no end of problems and lots of visits and I am quids in!
The more this myth of baby shampoo being nicer is perpetuated the better - roflmao. Baby shampoo is at a lower pH than normal human shampoo and is therefore acidic. If this is then applied to a neutral skin e.g. that of a canine, then you can guess the result without a lot of real thought.
Use with extreme caution. You want a shampoo formulated for dogs skin then you are going to have to put your hand in your pocket and pay up.Garantissez-moi de mes amis, je saurai me defendre de mes ennemis0 -

I dont have a problem buying whatever my dogs need, even if it meant that I went without. I now use evening primrose oil shampoo from Pets at Home (I love the smell of it). Do you think that the vet only reccommended it to get ongoing treatment for possible skin conditions(none ever showed) but then I dont actually bathe them that often, mostly just get brushed alot, and bathed about every 3 months. I wasnt aware about the problems of baby shampoo for dogs, hopefully more people will know now
I know my spelling is shocking  It is alot better than it used to be though :rotfl:0 -

Nah - its pure ignorance in most cases and bland stupidity if they are actually aware of the potential issues.
Dermatology is a bit of a Cinderella subject which is surprising given the number of skin problems seen on a daily basis. This effectively means that not as many skin cases get treated as well as they should. I hate seeing them treated badly and seek to improve knowledge where I can.Garantissez-moi de mes amis, je saurai me defendre de mes ennemis0 -

Stone me, thats v expensive - I must post a video of this procedure on You Tube and that will show what you get.
I realise I am about to be hit by Snowman for not mentioning all the added value (buildings staff etc) and missing the point, but I think even Snowman might think this somewhat excessive.Garantissez-moi de mes amis, je saurai me defendre de mes ennemis0 -
My vets wanted to charge £181 to neuter my dog, I got him done at the local dog charity for £40, I also made a donation but it still cost me less than half the price the vets would have charged.
The people at the dog charity told me they offer neutering at cost price because they're more interested in reducing unwanted litters than making a profit.
My vet was not impressed!0 -

snowman2 and simontheiceman - I hope you don't mind but I have sent you both a PM - after a lot of blather my actual question is at the bottom - I hope you can help.
Sorry to sound so mysterious everyone else and just to confirm it is not specific medical advice that I'm asking for.
Thanks
