be careful with your od and read the terms and conditions. you usually have to service the od by 15% per month (depending on which bank) of whatever it is to keep it or it will can be withdrawn at any time if not kept within terms & condit.
And if your seen to be living in your od will not be good for your behavioural score with your bank, even if you are servicing it they can still withdraw it from you after 12 months.
One more thing to remember od are now shown on bank accounts on credit files and can show up as late payments against the account on your credit file if not used within terms and conditions.
Wouldnt you be better off using a 0% cc and sticking that into a high interest acct like the stoozers for like 12-15 months...the interest you will be paying to stash your od in a high interest acct is surely no where worth paying the interest on it consider the highest amount you can earn in a high interest acct is roughly 10%MFWB

On another point, does anyone see a problem (wrt £50) with recommending my wife only just after opening my account? (I did but we've not credited the account yet).
Also why are the A&L account numbers not real account numbers! They have an extra digit which must be removed for money transfer from another account...0 -

grumbler wrote:Yes, there could be a problem. See Alliance and Leicester - recommend a friend? (Merged) . It is better to wait a little. Also they don't have a sort code on their debit card. And you cannot find the correct sort code even on your cheques. Read carefully your paperwork about your sort code ...
I think I read that but hope its only if you apply at the same time. (We didn't). They do send a recommend a friend slip when you open the account!
Thanks about the sort code. I was going to use the one on my cheques but then found that the account number also had an extra digit...0 -
sloughflint wrote:I recommended my husband who applied two days after me and we had no trouble getting the £50 each 24 hours after funding the accounts with £500.
One point worth mentioning.... I was going to fund my husband's account with £500 from my A& L account each month but apparently ( thanks to Dagobert for letting me know) this breaks the T & C's. Good job I am still banking elsewhere and didn't opt for the A&L switching service.
thanks sloughflint,
We haven't yet credited my wife's account. (I got the £50 for my account and I still haven't credited it!) Will do so once we've got the right sort code/account number. Unlike myself my wife will actually use the account. She's signed up for the the regular saver and the internet account (attached to the current account) is paying higher interest than our stooze savings account! We'll fund it with £1000 stooze money per month.0
