Anyone managed to use their FSCS certificate yet?

Received my certificate on Saturday.

Took it to Halifax in my lunch hour to get the money transferred out of a temporary Web Saver to a Fixed Rate ISA that's setup waiting for funds.

Young girl obvisouly had no clue what to do. First of all told me I had to do it myself online!

Managed to convince her that they needed to do it and then she said the certificate is no good "as it's a photocopy".
Explained that is what I had been sent and asked to speak to a Manager.

No Manager available, do I want to book an appointment (no as I work 9-5) or try again on Wednesday lunch time...

Anyone know if there is somewhere I can just send the stuff to who know what they are doing?

I'm going to try phoning this evening and see what they say...

If you were a brand new customer, the confirmation of FRISA application letter would go to Halifax, Savings Telesales, Trinity Road, Halifax, HX1 2BR and the "Icesave Customer Authority" form (linky) would go to Halifax, PO Box 548, Leeds, LS1 1WU. Not sure if this helps!

Alt, there are some guidance notes from HMRC somewhere around here.

    Edit: here: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/ISA/bulletin6-2008.htm
Wave those around if you decide to stick with the branch application.

Also take along the ISA promise press release that says they guarantee the interest rate for 60 days for those transferring in.

I can see why she thinks it's a photocopy, the "signature" on the bottom of the FSCS certificate is pretty pathetic quality. Looks like a fake-job for sure!

I've had mine in the weekend and have sent it off to Scottish Widows today. They actually let me open the account and send them the money without the certificate (just had to forward that when I got it, presumably they'd have shut the account if I hadn't done it by a certain date).

Rang them today to check the address and the guy said "you need to send it in with your cheque". When I told him the account was already open and the money deposited he told me that was impossible. No apology when I gave him the account number and he saw that was actually the case....

Just once I'd like to get a bank worker who a) knew what they were doing or b) had enough guts to admit they didn't know the answer and would get someone who could help. I've been sending money back to my home country (much higher interest rates!) and they've been bending over backwards to help me out, especially given they don't often have to deal with people opening accounts from abroad. Breath of fresh air.
