Competitions Ending 10/08/08

Again I'm trying not to show favour to 'oldies vs newbies' but the rules were made very clear & have been mentioned over and over again but still get ignored.

When these first started you would see 'comp ending threads' for as far in advance of weeks, the whole front page was covered in them at one point & no-one could keep up with who was doing what or when, to put it bluntly it was a shambles! The BG's stepped in & said enough is enough no more of these threads to be posted as it's causing too many problems (understandably) but then they was polls about them & opinions voiced so the BG's took all the views to people above them & it was decided that they could stay but certain 'rules' were set out one of which was they were to be posted the morning before (so any ending the 11th would be put on here the morning of the 10th) or the evening before that but NO EARLIER than 8pm on that evening.

There as been discussion on here about this only this week so the info is out there for anyone wanting to read it, I'm sorry but I have to totally agree with points made this week from various people of some compers just diving in to the comp ending threads without really contributing to the forum in anyway - if you were to contribute say in the comps discussion you would have seen the points made - & only taking the 'lazy' way of comping.

Comping is a hobby, people should remember that.

personally, i love it when comps ending lists are posted this extra evening in advance, gives me plenty more time to get them all done

I work full time as many people do on here and I only come on in the evening for a couple of hours if that. I do like to see the list a bit earlier as I can then go through and get most of it done and then get the rest done the next day. I've not long been comping and trying to catch up is nigh on impossible, especially for the ones that are at the end of the month, it took me three days to go through July 31st list. I do try and do other ones when I see them, but there are so many posts each day I find it difficult. This is just my opinion so please dont bite my head off!!!!!

Hi Princess, many thanks for the excellent explanation.
I would be as you say a newbie - having been "comping" for a couple of months and indead never saw the board in the state you mentioned.
I do very much agree with you in that rules need to be obeyed and that we should obviously all contribute.
I was actually getting to the point where I had almost enough nerve to volunteer myself to fill in an ending list next month!
And on the other hand I can also see where moonraker is coming from.
I think we need to remember the ending list is in all our interests. None of us "own" the competitions. In my opinion this board is a community and (again in my opinion) in a community people can contribute as much or as little as they like.
Indeed I have been running a totaly unrelated bullitin board for a few years and I have always adheared to this view.
I also belive if the ending threads are stopped we will actually be biting off our noses to spite our faces!!

As above, please don't bite my head off, I don't direct these comments at any other member in the least and am just contributing to the discussion.

I'm certainly not biting your head off, but I wonder why you feel you've got to enter every competition. The way you describe it - getting it done, trying to catch up, so many posts - and so on sounds really stressful and not much fun. Why not just look through the new comps and enter the ones you like the look of?

I would like to say a big thank you. As a real noob these lists are invaluable to me. I've been comping this week only and would not have managed to catch up on so many comps due to family / work commitments.

I can see that there is a lot of work undertaken in compiling these wonderful lists and wouldn't want to be deemed as using and abusing them as I have yet to find an original comp that hasn't already been posted on here. Maybe when I'm as seasoned as some of the other compers I will be better equiped to help.
