Anyone had any experience of I.F. new online savings account paying 6.4% ? I quite fancy the rate, but I dont have a mobile phone, and the instructions say
* Mobile phone required to set up a payment instruction using online banking. I didnt find it an easy website either, to find the details I wanted , such as whether you could have a joint account.

FWIW you can see the reason for the mobile phone in the demo (""How to set up a payment instruction or a standing order") here:

I've never seen that method used before.Stompa0 -
I have just spoken to I F and the reason for the mobile phone request is if you want to send money from the i-saver acc to an external acc, i.e. not the linked one,(they do not ask you for a mobile number during the application). But if you ever want to send to an external acc, they ask you to register a mobile number, and when sending to external acc they ask for the last 3 digits of the mobile.
The acc can only be managed online and therefore that is the reason for the increased interest rate, you cannot manage it by phone, so if you don't have internet access you cannot use it.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Does the 'linked' acc mean an istant account with their firm you have to open (as is the case with the old Halifax bonds), or just mean something like nationwides flex account that you might already have? If its the latter, Im happy with internet banking, and I dont mind being restricted to only being able to transfer via Nationwide , so maybe I dont need a mobile no. after all to go ahead.0

As far as I recall you can set up a linked acc from any other bank during the application process,as I am already with them I did not need to prove I D but as usual if you link from another bank you will probably have to open the acc with a cheque from that acc..
Why not go through the application process, you can stop it at any time if you don't feel it is right for you and at the end you have still not opened the acc as they send you the documentation in the post to check and sign.
You can also phone them using a free phone number; - 0800 5875758, to go through the form with them and ask any questions as they come up.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0
