Egg payment query

Options
Hiya

Quick question - I paid off my Egg Card in full by selecting the 'pay off in full each month' option on the website. They paid it all of except 0.67p, which according to my statement is Merchandise interest @ 1.385 per month. What is this, and how come I was charged this when my balance is 'nil'?

Could be an error - I've heard of people being accidently charged interest - best to ask Egg for the detail.

The only other thing I can think of is a cash advance (cash withdrawl or something like a gamling web site which is deemed as cash advance) as I believe these still attract interest even when the balance is paid in full. Someone else will probably know more of the detail.

It depends when you paid off the balance in full - if this was later than the direct debit date you will be charged interest at the next statement period. If it was on the 'due date' however - and made via debit card from your current account the application of the payment is 2 working days after - and therefore not treated as 'in time' to meet this deadline.

A TIP if you have an Egg Savings account: 'preload' this with your payment by debit card (it credits instantly) then make a payment from this to the card account straightaway. The payment then applies to the credit card account the same day as you make it - and is therefore quicker than a 'direct payment' would be

Hi, I've recently opened an Egg Savings acc but can't see how/where I can use that account to make direct payments to my Egg card(s). The only account currently listed in the "withdrawals" section is my bank current acc, with the option of adding further non-Egg accs.

Also, assuming I can make payments to non-Egg credit cards via that account, am I right in thinking that I would set it up the same way as internet banking by entering their sort code/acc number and using my cc number as the reference?

I'm a bit dozy about all this as well, but I think (if you have Egg Money Card for instance), in the summary of your accounts which comes up when you log in, click on the View for Egg Money. Then go to the box on the left and choose 'One Off Payment'. You will then see Amount; From (and you can choose your Savings account); To 'Egg Money' is then there.

Unfortunately you cannot do this in reverse and all transactions from Egg Money to Egg Savings have to be done via Secure Message. Nevertheless it's a good idea to do this! ;)

Re Egg transfers, I don't know if anyone else has been having 'problems', but I did two transfers - one from Egg Money to savings and one from external bank to Egg Money. Both seemed to get lost - so do keep an eye on your account to check that things haven't take too long. The one had to go to a specialist team for investigation. All OK now and in general I am confident of Egg, but just keep an eye on your accounts to ensure transfers have gone through.

Thanks to Milarky for your debit card tip - I am so tired of having to wait 7 days for transfers from my Bank.

You 'pull' the money in from Egg Money.
    • Select your Egg Money account
    • Click "One off payment"
    • In the 'from' drop down box you should see your savings account listed.
    • The 'to' drop down box defaults to Egg Money.

No, I didn't either - had to phone Egg and get them to take me through it page by page. I don't think it's logical! LOL.

Don't forget what I said in my PM the other day. Make £1 test payments from ES to your CC(s) before sending any large ones. Better safe than sorry!

I've had several problems with Egg recently:
    a) taking a duplicate payment for a large sum of money causing my current acc to go o/d
    b) cancelling direct debit following bank recall of duplicate payment and not informing me they had done so (was subsequently charged interest due to this which they've since refunded)
    c) due to failure of above DD I made a debit card payment over the phone and they applied it to the wrong egg card!!!!

Still trying to resolve the last error and trying to get them to transfer the payment back to the correct card but it's still not showing as being done almost a week later!!! Incompetent idiots!!!!

Not sure why I still persevere with them to be honest :rotfl:
