Help - P45

Hi All

Does anyone know what you need to do if you are starting a new job and cannot find your P45 ? ???

Comments

  • The instructions for Employers are set down here.
What if my Employee doesn't have a P45?
From this it doesn't look too much of a problem.
For you I would imagine you will go onto an emergency tax code and pay more tax until either you find your P45 or they sort out a proper tax code for you.

    Fill in a p46
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.
  • Yes, as Huggy Blair suggested - fill in a P46, your employer will know which form that is.
You just need to make sure that you provide your NI number, address and sign the form. If your salary is over the tax threadhold, then your employer will forward the P46 to the Inland Revenue.
  • Sorry for late response had computer problems. Thanks for info everyone, all sorted now. ;)
  • IF you went onto 'month 1' tax code, work out how much tax you overpaid and see if you can claim it back from the tax office.

They will not contact you to tell you that you have overpaid, you need to claim it!
    Smile it confuses people!
