Therapeutic earnings question...

Hi there,
I am on benefits and I am regarded as being seriously ill/disabled. I have been told I can earn some money without being penalised on income support and HB. I am thinking of working flexible as an internet researcher (AQA) but I need to know what I can earn and how to go about it. More info would be appreciated.

It's not a lot. I think it's under £20 a week.0

Here are the Permitted Work rules:

The other alternative is to come off Incapacity Benefit and claim Tax Credits instead:

I hate to contradict this but you can earn upto £88 per week, providing it is less than 16 hours work and you are working with the support of a registered advisor, be that the DEA at your job centre or as in my case my local Shaw Trust representative. Initially it says for a maximum 52 weeks but this can be overcome providing your advisor thinks it is helping resolve the problems of being disabled and lets not forget lack of money is a real problem!!:rotfl:0 -

Yes that is correct for Incapacity Benefit but if you are claiming Income Support on the grounds of Incapacity it is £20 per week.0 -

That is true for Incapacity Benefit, in fact has now gone up to £93 p/w. However on Income Support you only have a 'disregard' of £20. This means you can earn £20 without it affecting your benefits. Anything you earn above the £20 is taken off your Income support benefit pound for pound.0
