    The don't like poor people.

They want the space for more premium priced and branded products.,

Mr T got rid of their red/white/blue cheapo stuff, but it's still available in packs with coloured pictures on (so they don't stand out among the pricier goods). Maybe Asda will do that... bring it all back, in regular-looking packaging.

As PN says, more space for more profitable items

They have stripped it back but there's still loads of smartprice items.
However perhaps they have their days numbered.

I suppose they're just not as profitable as other items and perhaps sales of those cheaper items have dropped recently.

Shame as the Smartprice butter (real butter) is exactly the same as the Asda branded one, but the latter costs more.

All supermarkets have been dropping many lines from their value range. Some were only 5p less than their normal range.

    Value meat is horrible
  • They don't seem realise that getting rid of their Smartprice range will mean they will lose even more customers to Aldi/Lidl as wages are not rising with inflation, so people will still want the lowest priced items which Aldi/Lidl provide, but at a premium quality.

Tesco have just rebranded the value stuff as Redmere Farms and other similar made up brands. Personally I trust these brand names less!

Not sure if Asda will go down the same route, but I haven't noticed SmartPrice stuff in Asda for years.

Bought some SP custard powder in sachets. 19p. Aldi and Lidl don’t sell this

I have no idea why people are reviewing these Asda smartprice, please send "trapped chicken" complaints to His Majesty's government. Jokes aside, these are great for money, and I know they are locked up but cash is rare; if I or the jumper then ... well, you have an idea.
