Debt Tracker

Hi I am a newbie to the board, I have been reading lots and there is some amazing advice and support on here so I am hoping someone might be able to help.

Does anyone use an app to track their debts, I would like something visual where I can see all my totals, payments and hopefully the numbers going down :) I appreciate I can do a spreadsheet but I would like something more flexible like an app which I can access anywhere etc.

Also what is the best app for credit scores? I would like to see the impact of my debts going down and hopefully seeing my score go up :)

Hope this all makes sense.

Can`t help with the app, but you can ignore the scores, you must be aware the credit scores on your credit reports are made up by the credit reference agencies, in order to sell you credit improvement products ?

Creditors score you using their own system, the CRA`s are not lenders, so why would that number be of any importance to anyone ?

You may as well just write your own number and marvel at how well your doing.

I think a spreadsheet with graphs and pie charts would be quite good and motivational. Don't know if you will be able to see the same graphical representation on any app though.

I use a spreadsheet, I have my creditor names, outstanding balance, monthly installment, offer amount.
Under each of the monitory columns I have the balance.
It's set up to auto calculate for me.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

Not an app but MSMoney(free) has all the stuff built in.

Right from setting up your budget to forecasting your future.

More reporting options than you could think of.

Decades of experience and requirements captured in one progtam
  • I use Google sheets so I can easily view on a mobile anywhere or on a PC if I need to.

I have a tab with my monthly expenditures and one for my debts. One column for every month and filled across for several years!

I've been using it almost daily for the past 5 years and so far so good. It has really helped with my budgeting whilst in a DMP.

  • Slightly different from what you're looking for perhaps, but I use Account Tracker Pro on iOS. I love it. You can set up all your accounts and manually add spending, plus set up recurring payments. That way I can see what stage I'll be at in a few months time etc in terms of cash flow. I add my outstanding debts as accounts and so I can also track when they'll be cleared.

ClearScore is a bit of fun encouragement to see the score rising as you pay debt down, but as others have said, credit scores aren't really worth much. At the moment mine says excellent but I know for a fact there's credit I'm ineligible for.

  • I use an app called Debts break, think I’ve had it for about 2 years now.
You have to initially do a bit of work and manually input all the debts you want it to track
I.e. credit card 1 - £2000,0% interest, and how much you pay off a month on what date

Do this for each of ur debts and then it will track it for you.
I frequently pay extra off my debts, so when I do that I just edit the amount renaming.
It’s free and it’s helped me a lot because I owe lots to lots of different lenders/people.

I started with (roughly) £50,000 worth of debt
And I’ve got less than £13,000 left to go.
With the app (and my wages) I pay off about £12,000 per year.

As for credit score... whist I agree with the people above, it’s not that important, especially because it fluctuates wverytime you take out finance or credit cards etc.
But if you want to check it for free, use the credit club as per Martin Lewis, it’s free and is updated once a month

im sure you could use it for debt as of course it'd be a minus, but i use mobilis app on android (ios and online are available). and it tracks all my spending, so eg i can see that the "grocery" category is looking slim or spendy this week / month etc.
