I found this hole in my living room floor this morning and I'm sure it wasn't there yesterday. Does it look like a hole made by a rodent to you? The black bits are pieces of foam and fluff not poo.

I have a little furry myself and I am confident it wasn't him because a) I've had little furries long enough to know all their Houdini tricks and that cage has not let me down with him or his predecessors and, b) if he had managed to get out he wouldn't have been in his cage this morning, a cage which is still sealed.
I did think it was odd that he hadn't touched the food I put in there last night including a monkey nut. He loves monkey nuts and those usually last no longer than 10 seconds.

Hands up all those who thought this was going to be a thread about having extra food in over Christmas for unexpected visitors? :-)Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

It's the Phantom Monkey Nut Night Burglar!!!
Lock up your nuts .... he didn't get them this time.... but next time....0 -
Yup. The larger, more intelligent furry we tend to get in houses with spaces under the floorboards.
Unfortunately, this is going to require a bit of investigation and DIY to prevent the entire furry clan popping in for a visit each night; carpets up, boards checked, all gaps sealed (a temporary measure would be, for example, placing loose laminate boards/poundshop sticky vinyl tiles over the gaps).
Check around the underneath of sinks for gaps around the pipes, the backs and underneath bits of the kitchen cupboards, the fireplace, the floor and ventilation bricks of any larder, all foodstuffs such as oats, flour, cereal, chocolate, biscuits, etc, sealed in tubs or jars - and, whatever you do, remember that these are wild furries, not the cute friendly ones you keep, so they will defend themselves if necessary and they will carry nasty bugs and bacteria, so you'll also need to be absolutely ruthless about cleaning down the kitchen work surfaces before and after even a slice of toast is made.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

Are you sure yours hasn't been playing out? My friend used to have two and the only sign that they'd been running wild and free were the little nibbles out of the wallpaper border and them putting themselves back in the wrong cages one night.....0

This is the first sign I've ever seen of there being mice in my home. I'm currently on a ketosis diet with meal replacement so there isn't mcuh food in my home. It's all either in sealed packets or is fruit and veg which is kept in the fridge. My furry's food is kept in air tight containers which are still in tact.
I'm more worried about any diseases and bacteria from wild rodents making him sick than anything else.
I live in a top floor flat and mine is the only one on this floor. Would I be right in thinking that they must have got in somewhere else lower down in the building or could they have climbed up?0 -

I am 95% confident that it's not my hamster....unless he's gone all Shawshank Redemption on me. I will triple check his cage this evening.
I suppose I could leave out a humane trap one night and see who greets me in the morning.0 -
Do you have a neighbour's cat you can tempt in with food? If you let a cat have a quick gander round your house, they'll leave a scent the mice can smell & they'll skidaddle.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A.
