Best value tube or bus travel for a weekend in London

My wife and I are in London next weekend (Fri 30th Jan/Sun 1st Feb)
Stopping near to Euston, we will want to take the tube or bus around zone's 1 & 2, mainly off peak. What is the best way to do it?
I also have a Senior Railcard (My wife does not)
Thank you.

M'star - there is no off-peak distinction on weekends. If you have a non-London bus pass, you will be able to use it on buses only (no underground) - sfaik, your railcard will not help you at all except on overground services. London buses don't take cash, and tickets for buses and tubes need to be bought before boarding. Your best bet is a pre-paid Oystercard or a contactless debit/credit card - look at the TransportForLondon website - there is a daily cap on total travel costs, but I believe that there is some kind of 'deposit' on an Oystercard, so I'm not sure what happens if you only use it once or twice during the weekend. Enjoy your weekend.mad mocs - the pavement worrier0

Thank you.
I would suggest a contactless payment card for your wife. See here.
Because you have a Senior Railcard, you might want to consider getting an Oyster card and getting your railcard entitlement loaded on it. This will give you a third discount on all off-peak tube fares. An Oyster Card does cost £5 deposit, and you will have to load some credit on it, but any unused credit and the deposit are refundable. See here.
If I was in your position, I would ignore the Oyster Card palaver altogether, but as this is a money saving site it has to be mentioned.
Just take a contactless payment card each is my suggestion.
Note that the contactless card must have been previously used with a PIN transaction before using it on London's buses or tube, and you must have one each.0 -
Thank you both, I will go with the contact debit card option, it seems an easier option.:beer:0
