Tube Strike Helo (alternative route?)

Looking for some suggestions please :)

Infrequent visitor to London. On Wednesday I need to get from London City to Hyde Park Corner and then on to Heathrow, I would have taken the tube/dlr which I have an understanding of, although concerned I'll have to take buses or train which I have no understanding of. I am happy to do a little walking if it means being able to do the journey on the tube as I realise some services may now be running. Thanks x

Why not use TfL's Journey Planner?
  • London City Airport - take the DLR to Woolwich Arsenal station (end of the line).
Change onto National Rail - Southeastern service to Charing Cross (again, end of the line). Short walk across Trafalgar Square onto Cockspur street and take the #9 bus to Hyde Park corner.

36 or 436 (or cab) from Hyde Park Corner to Paddington, then Heathrow Express*/Heathrow Connect** to the airport.

*15 mins to Heathrow every 15 mins, £21 (yes it's expensive... If you pre-book on their website I think it's cheaper)
**30 mins to Heathrow every 30 mins, £9.90
  • Thank you very helpful. I can use my Oyster for the national rail service within London can't i?

Yes - but not on the Heathrow Express (or Heathrow Connect past Hayes & Harlington and onto the airport itself).
  • There are some sections of the PIcc line running but just get to Paddington for the Heathrow connect servioce.

  • DLR from City Airport to Bank.

Number 23 bus from Bank (stop MC on Queen Victoria Street) to Piccadilly Circus.

Walk from Piccadilly Circus down Piccadilly to Hyde Park Corner.

From Hyde Park Corner, as cosmojohnson said, 36 or 436 bus to Paddington, or 148 to Lancaster Gate then short walk to Paddington (all from stop Y on Park Lane).

Afraid Heathrow Express is £21 even if you do buy the ticket from their website - it's also £21 if you buy from a ticket machine or ticket office before you get on the train. If however you get on the train without a ticket, then it costs £26 to buy one on board!

If the OP has a Railcard, then they can use it to get a third off the Heathrow Express or Heathrow Connect fares, but only by buying the discounted ticket from a ticket office before getting on the train.
