LJ's positive challenge 5th of June

'Becoming debt free and staying that way is a very difficult thing to achieve. When times get hard it can be hard to stay positive and keep on going. I've been having a hard time recently myself and know that a lot of others have also been feeling this way so I've decided that we need to have a challenge of sorts to boost our positivity which will give us a renewed energy to bust those debts!

The idea (and this is open to suggestions from others) is that I'll start up a daily thread where we'll post one thing we are doing to boost our positivity. Obviously this does not need to be debt or financially related. It could be something as simple as phoning an old friend we haven't spoken to in a while or fixing that dodgy floorboard that's been bugging for a while, reorganising the kitchen to make things flow easier and hence cutting back on stress etc etc etc Although these things aren't by themselves cutting back on our debts or helping financially they are helping to make our lives easier and make us feel that we have made a positive achievement in our day and to our lives in general.'

afternoon darling dfw's. hope the sun is shining where you are. It's trying up here but there are grey clouds covering it, is nice and warm tho, hoping for a thunder storm this evening!!!

well today has been a mixed bag, work was ok as most of the 'bitter hearts' as I'm now choosing to call them weren't in until I was leaving :) and the sun was trying to shine which always makes for a good day.

my positive thing that I have done today is choose myself a new theme song (how very ally mcbeal!!!). It's a positive anthem by a band called jimmy eat world and it really captures how I'm feeling right now and tells me to ignore the paranoid feelings and loneliness I've been feeling recently. It's an old-ish song that I never paid too much heed to before but after rediscovering it on sky a couple of days ago it struck a chord and I've now downloaded it. It's on repeat and when folk are getting to me I'm gonna sing it in my head to remind me to ignore them.

so what positive things are you all doing today???

I've tackled 4/5 of the Shakespeare text for my exam, and re-watched two surrealist films (harder than it sounds!)

What films did you watch Gemmzie?

I've had a bit of a :( day - bored out of my mind at work, could really do with a break and I've got the opportunity to go and visit some friends abroad but I don't think I can justify the money to myself (lost my passport so I'd need to get a new one on top of everything else!). I promised myself any spare money would go into my savings, partly to go towards debts and partly to try and move into a bigger flat later in the year (I'm currently in a tiny studio flat). I've been sitting trying to work out a rough budget for a bigger place and it's looking really difficult.. meanwhile other people at work are getting new kitchens and moving house etc etc... :(

Right, sorry, enough moaning... I HAVE just booked a couple of days off work next month to go and see my parents who I've not seen since Christmas. It might not be the most stress-free few days I spend but it'll be good to see them and to get a change of scenery for a few days :)
Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012.

kaz, what a wonderful thing to do for a friend, well done you!

gemmzie I've had to study the shawshank redemption and hated that so I can imagine how hard yours were, best of luck with them x

atb, it may be my ocd but an organised life is a happy one :D

storm i thought half the fun of these festivals was falling about drunk trying to put the tent up upside down? or is it not that kinda festival lol :rotfl:

squirrel, big hugs, totally understand the boring work! If I were you i'd try and find some way of making that trip, ok your dfd would be put off by a month or two but this thread is all about boosting your mental state (not that I'm saying your mental or anything haha) and imagine the boost to your debt busting abilities if you came back after a short trip to visit your friends??? don't write it off without at least trying xxx

My positive step for today (admittedly the day is nearly over!) is to finally finish the washing up!

I left it when I went away for the weekend (terrible I know) but its all the big bits I hate cleaning, frying pans etc.

Once I've done those, I'll want to be in my kitchen and make myself a decent dinner instead of eating all these biscuits *wipes crumbs off tshirt*

I've sent off letters to get defaults removed from my credit file (two out of three are errors on their part - and for once I can prove it!)

Going to knuckle down and get my assignment for my OU course finished tonight -and if not completely finished - as close as I can manage.

Also going to apply for a new driving licence to replace lost one, so OH doesn't have to do all the driving when we go to France - AT THE END OF THE MONTH!! :j :j :j

    Brill Idea!

My positive thing I finally did today was 3 little jobs that have keeping me awake at night! And it only took 30 mins to do...I must stop procrastinating...tomorrow
