Bankruptcy & Banking

Just starting the BR process, we opened a basic coop account as we have no debts with them, if the OR freezes the account, normally how long is that for & IF the coop then decide to close our account, where could we go to get an account that we can bank cheques, have DD's, etc. I realise it would cost but does anyone know anything about 'First Premier' or is there a better option?

Its banks that freeze accounts NOT the OR's if it did happen and with a basic co op account it's unlikely a quick call and the OR can tell the bank they have no interest in the account

barclays as well are bankrupt freindly even if they've been a past creditor

(both accounts will allow DDs paying in etc etc) certainly wouldnt look at banks that charge monthly fees like the one you mention...most are useless and service is terrible

    :p
  • When the OR phones you for the first time, just tell them its a basic Co Op account for your day to day expenses & they should declare they have no interest in it so the account carries on running as normal. My Co op account did not change at all.

Other than that, then Barclays offer a basic account. However they don't offer internet access so if you bank online then the Co Op account may be better.
